Guest Services Associate Part-time, temporary

The Tech is proud to serve as an important resource in Silicon Valley, placing STEM education directly into the hands of thousands of schoolkids each year through signature programs like The Tech Challenge as well as free field trips and labs for low-income Title I schools. The Tech aims to become a place that inspires and equips people, especially low-income young people, to succeed in a world driven by technology.



The Guest Services Associate is the front-line contact person for all guests visiting or inquiring about The Tech Museum. By providing excellent customer service through ticket and membership sales and assisting with guest needs this position directly impacts the guest experience.



Responsibilities:




  • Offer superior service to potential and actual guests by interacting in person and on the phone with guests.

  • Be an ambassador for The Tech's mission by providing information and recommendations about The Tech's galleries, programs, IMAX Theater and events.

  • Assist the guest with any general information needs. Stay current on information regarding The Tech.

  • Explain and sell tickets and memberships. Accurately process and complete cash and credit transactions using the point-of-sale system.

  • Assist the guests with entering the museum, track and collect tickets.

  • Greet school groups by meeting teachers at buses outside the Group entrance, giving chaperone and student instructions to large groups and ensuring that each group arrives at their first destination.

  • Maintain high standards in general housekeeping to provide an inviting and friendly atmosphere.

  • In the event of an emergency follow directed procedures to assist guests.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.



Key Qualifications:




  • Prior retail, sales, museum and/or customer service experience preferred.

  • Outgoing, positive attitude and enthusiasm for working with the public of all ages.

  • Excellent communication skills and professional phone manner. Ability to work as part of a team as well as accomplish work independently.

  • Ability to adhere to The Tech's grooming guidelines and provide a professional appearance.

  • Punctual with the ability to adhere to scheduled shifts.

  • Accurate cash handling skills. Prior experience with point-of-sale cash handling systems helpful.

  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office, Windows, internet).

  • Ability to stand for periods of time in both an indoor and outdoor environment.

  • Ability to bend and lift repeatedly. If hired, ability to maintain availability provided at time of interview.



Salary $12 per hour
