Medical Billing/Collection Specialist - Full-time / Part-time

Medical biller/collectors are responsible for resolving unpaid claims identified on aged A/R and various other reports, and also for reviewing and responding to all billing-related correspondence. Denial trends are researched and root causes are identified and reported to our Revenue Cycle Director for resolution. Collection Teams are organized by client rather than by payer in most cases, therefore biller/collectors should be familiar with most Medicare, Medi-Cal, commercial, and work comp payers.

Essential Functions

* Identify areas of improvement for the purpose of submitting clean claims to payers electronically.
* Majority of the time spent in this position will be posting and trending denials by payor.
* Research unpaid accounts and take necessary action to obtain payment within federal regulations and payers filing deadlines.
* Appeal denied claims within payer's appeal deadlines.
* Research and resolve accounts receivable issues with members of the billing department.
* Assists in maintaining patient information and data in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
* Maintains up-to-date expertise and knowledge of healthcare billing laws, rules, regulations, and developments necessary for the organization to make informed business decisions.
* Assists account receivable team as needed to meet deadlines, including assisting with overloads.
