About this job

The Psychiatrist directs and coordinates medical/clinical services to specified youth within the facility. Performs psychiatric assessments for individuals under his/her care. Provides individual treatment and/or medication management as needed for patients under his/her care. Appropriately requests consultation when indicated. Provides psychiatric consultation when requested.

Assesses clinical appropriateness for admission, transfer, and discharge. Collaborates with intake staff regarding potential admissions. Performs psychiatric assessments, individual therapy, and/or medication management as needed for patients under his/her care. Demonstrates appropriate medication administration. Documentation regarding medications complies with facility and regulatory standards. Leads the treatment team and participates collaboratively in scheduled staffing regarding the treatment of his/her patients. Provides timely, accurate, and thorough documentation of patient behavior, medical interventions, treatment planning and intervention. Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Knowledge of psychopathology, diagnosis and treatment strategies for patient populations credentialed for. Knowledge of the principles and practices of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and neurology, along with current theories and practices in the field of mental health. Demonstrates strong clinical assessment skills. Knowledge of medications and their effects on physical and psychological disorders. Ability to diagnose and treat mental illness in relation to physical conditions. Ability to deal effectively with emotionally disturbed children and adults. Ability to prescribe appropriate medications for the treatment of physical and psychological disorders. Must possess leadership ability and skills. Ability to direct the work of others. Ability to set priorities and assign work to other professionals. Ability to organize and coordinate the work of others. Ability to identify appropriate treatment programs, and to interpret the treatment programs to patients' relatives, staff, medical and other professionals, and other interested parties. Ability to conduct group and family therapy sessions. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work. Ability to prepare and review diagnostic reports. Ability to communicate effectively with others. Ability to provide expert witness testimony regarding the status of patients' or social security disability benefits claimants' psychological condition. Ability to maintain favorable public relations. Available to the facility 24 hours a day for emergency consultation. Able to safely de-escalate and manage aggressive patients, to oversee seclusion and physical restraint of patients per policy. Able to handle multiple projects under deadlines with short notice. Maintains professional therapeutic relationships with staff, patients, families and visitors. Able to maintain patient confidentiality.

Education/Training:

Graduate of an accredited school for Psychiatry program.

Licensure/Certification:

Doctor of Medicine with a specialty in Psychiatric and current state licensure in Oklahoma.

Experience:

Three or more post-doctoral years' experience in the delivery of mental health treatment to adults.
