The Associate Director, National Accounts role will underwrite very large plans for the Employer & Individual Medical book of business. The role will assess benefit plan characteristics and assess risks as to frequency and potential severity of loss of clients. The role utilizes underwriting criteria and policies to provide proper rating methodologies, and builds and maintain models to assist in the economic analysis of market alternatives. Also, the role is responsible for the evaluation and recommendation of alternative pricing options and plan design changes based on economic analysis and trends. This role is primarily focused on renewal business.  
Another key component of this role is to serve as team lead or mentor to newer underwriters on the team. Previous leadership or supervisory/team lead experience is desired.
 
Ideally the role will be located in Hartford, CT. Also, we will consider Minnetonka, MN. or Schaumburg, IL. Telecommute consideration will only be considered for highly experienced current or former employees.    
Primary Responsibilities:

Prepare financial modeling for reserve calculation, budget calculation, and other ongoing reviews that directly aligns with client strategies
Validate renewals for accuracy including utilization and experience reporting
Conduct competitive analysis of all coverage lines and present financial and contractual findings to Senior and Executive levels
Promote the use of established underwriting criteria and policies to provide proper rating methodologies

Required Qualifications:

5+ years experience with healthcare group underwriting for any variety of products: PPO, HMO, self-funded, ASO/fully-insured  
Intermediate level of proficiency with MSWord, Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:

Previous managerial or team leader experience
Superior oral and written communication skills 
Must be organized, detail oriented and able to translate big picture ideas into client objectives
Strong negotiation and persuasion skills
Bachelors or higher degree in Math, Finance or related degree
Ability to create pivot tables in Excel
