RN COORDINATOR NICU - FULL TIME FOUNTAIN HILLS

Essential Duties

Exercises management prerogatives with respect to all aspects of the nursing process.

Assumes leadership role and delegates nursing care and tasks to appropriate staff within scope of licensure/certification.

Assists Director in the overall function of unit.

Supports delivery of direct patient care and is responsible to ensure that staff complete their orientation/ training and competency for the assigned unit within the stated time frame.

Directly supervises personnel and assures the quality of clinical nursing care of patients.

Assists with daily clinical/service rounds on all patients with focus on: Patient Satisfaction; Physician Satisfaction; Employee Satisfaction.

Is capable of maintaining clear and direct communication with Director and staff.

Fosters open communication in groups and meetings.

Operates shift according to matrix and budget with attention to daily productivity, sitter hours, and registry.

Effectively manages variances.

Collaborates with other units to expedite admissions through attendance of daily bed meeting.

Facilitates admission/discharge process.

Provides direction and assistance in emergency situations.

Provides feedback to Director/clinical coordinator regarding staff performance.

Identifies and documents need for staff counseling.

Conducts preliminary investigation of potential disciplinary issues.

Assures patient care is provided within JCAHO, DHS, and legal aspects of nursing.

Serves as a role model and mentor to staff while reflecting mission statement, vision, and values of the organization.

Assists in orientation process and/or serves as a preceptor for staff orienting to charge role.

Participates in patient quality assurance programs.

Acts as a resource to staff and physicians.

24-hour responsibility for the direct supervision of all clinical personnel who provide patient care; and

The day-to-day coordination of and quality of clinical nursing care of patients.

Completes schedules, keeps time keeping systems up to date, and evaluates the performance of the staff.

Supports patient care needs and organizational goals and objectives.

May handle human blood and other potentially infectious and/or hazardous materials that may result in possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or harmful elements.

Responsible for the assessment, treatment and care of patients in the following age groups: Neonate, Adult

Identifies educational needs of unit staff and provides in-services accordingly.

Updates skills and knowledge with emphasis on leadership and critical skills by attending in-services, workshops, etc. (1= 3/yr)

Actively participates in required meetings through regular attendance and communication of information to unit. (1-Has Not; 2=Accepts; 3=Provides/proficient evaluations and recommendations and/or resource information.

Meets unit based clinical competencies.

Demonstrated Leadership Skills As Exhibited By:

Serves as a role model by acting as a resource on hospital policies and procedures, attendance and professional behavior.

Acts as a liaison in handling problems with staff, physicians, patients and visitors.

Actively participates in hiring/interviewing process and continues staff development through completing employee evaluation/coaching/counseling of staff as needed and provides documentation of it.

Contributes to unit efficiency through adhering to staffing guidelines, budgeted hours, following flex plan and making appropriate assignments.

Works with the Department Director on department projects, policy revisions, etc.

Assigns personnel, evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.

Oversees the work of other personnel by training, allocating and maintaining work. Serves as a clinical resource.

Maintains department facilities, equipment and materials in a good condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety.

Recommends equipment, supplies and other resources needed for the provision of services.

Utilizes the expertise of the team members to identify and creatively coordinate resources and specialty, ability to access resources outside of specialty, as needed, ability to facilitate multi disciplinary rounds or case conferences.

Facility Responsibility

The facility shall maintain written documentation of the qualifications and responsibilities of the Registered Nurse Coordinator.

The Registered Nurse Coordinator shall not be assigned direct patient care responsibilities.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

Requires excellent clinical expertise in specialty. Must be able to multi-prioritize. Understanding of payroll and productivity. Works well with minimal direction. Drives customer service and quality indicators.

Includes knowledge and proficiency in computer including Microsoft Word, Powerpoint; Excel and Optilink System.

License/Certification :

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California

Current American Heart Association (AHA) approved BLS and ACLS.

Clinical II RN with supervisory experience.

Completion of charge nurse class, chare nurse checklist and charge nurse competency.

Completion of preceptor class.

Knowledge and Abilities :

Has full command (verbal and written) of the English language.

Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
