Surgical Inventory/Sterile Processing Specialist

Maintains the computer Inventory Control System (desktop and handheld) for the surgery area. Controls the ordering and restocking process of supplies and maintains and distributes stock. Communicates with the buyer for reordering using established procedures. Prepares requisitions for Surgery Area Manager to review and approve per policy.

Performs a variety of tasks related to the preparation of instruments and equipment for procedures and surgeries. Operates sterilizing and decontamination units using different agents, which may include steam, hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid, ethylene oxide, and glutaraldehyde. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, instrument processing, distribution, inventory, equipment decontamination and record keeping functions under general guidance. * High school diploma, GED or equivalent * Basic computer knowledge of Word and Excel * Knowledge of typical surgical equipment and supplies and sources of supply desired * Knowledge of inventory control - including par levels - is desired * Two years of surgical inventory control in a healthcare environment * Able to communicate (read and write) in English and communicate and work effectively with hospital employees, sales representatives; internal and external customers, perform simple mathematical functions and handle a large volume of detailed work accurately * Able to type 30 cwpm. Demonstrated skills researching and monitoring specialized surgical equipment required * Requires accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to complete work within established timeframes * Previous experience demonstrating knowledge of sterile processing procedures and standards as typically acquired in approximately two years is required * Excellent organization skills desired * Education: High School diploma required. BLS cert desired. Certification in Sterile Processing desired.
