The Center for Analytical Chemistry (CAC) provides valuable services to California related to food/feed and environmental safety issues including crop protection, farm worker safety, data gathering activities, and emergency response. The CAC is one of the Food Emergency Response Network laboratories operating under the guidance of the Food and Drug Administration and the United States Department of Agriculture. The CAC plays an integral role in the California's comprehensive regulatory food safety program by providing accurate and reliable analytical support to the County Agriculture Commissioners in their enforcement activities. The Animal Feed and Fertilizer Section assists the Feed, Fertilizer, Livestock Drugs Regulatory Services Branch through the provision of label compliance testing of commercial feeds and fertilizers, animal feed nutritional additives testing, proximates, microscopy, minerals, drugs, vitamins, mycotoxins testing, and, testing of primary, secondary, micronutrients and minerals for plant nutrition. In addition to the Food Safety services, the CAC also provides vital analytical support to the California Department of Pesticide Regulation, California Environmental Protection Agency. The Environmental Analysis Laboratory (EMON) performs soil and water analyses mandated by the Ground Water Protection Act, monitors pesticide exposure of field workers and takes part in investigation of illness related to the misuse of pesticides.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Environmental Program Manager I (Supervisor), the Office Technician (Typing) functions as the clerical support for the CAC and provides a variety of administrative support to all CAC staff and the field laboratory staff in Anaheim. The incumbent must communicate effectively, perform with a high degree of independence, and have strong organization and interpersonal skills, be dependable, with a good attendance record, is comfortable in a team environment, and can work with a minimum of supervision, and have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Visio, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

DUTIES:

Oversee ordering and tracking of office supply inventory for program. Order supplies through approved contractual vendors, CAL-Card and/or purchase order ensuring products are available for program staffs utilization. Coordinate purchases for the program and processes the procurement requests using the Requisition/Purchase Request Form SO-21 following through to verify order has been received. Resolve problems with vendors and program staff regarding orders in a timely manner. Prepare and reconcile program invoices as requested by supervisor/lead, noting discrepancies as appropriate. Request supervisor approval and submit to Accounts Payable for prompt payment. Maintain Branch inventory lists, act as the primary person to initiate equipment surveys, forward to Departmental Services and coordinate the pick-up of surveyed equipment to the appropriate recycling company. Provide support to the program with compiling contract packages to be sent to Departmental Services for processing. Act as receptionist for the program, screening and reviewing incoming telephone calls and visitors. Research questions and respond personally or direct calls and visitors to the appropriate staff. Receive, review, process and/or distribute mail, which may not be specifically addressed or may be sensitive in nature (such as personnel type documents). Receive, review and process payroll for staff, verifying time, approval, and leave usage. Consult with supervisors regarding discrepancies. Assist staff with ordering of lab coats. Process invoices and track the contract balance for laundry services. Provide support and assistance to the program for meeting preparation as requested, make arrangements for meetings such as locations, travel, supplies, agendas, distributing meeting minutes, and other meeting planning duties as assigned by supervisor or lead.
