About this job

Under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse, assists residents with activities of daily living. Carries out nursing care measures as delegated. Assists residents with general hygiene such as bath, shower, grooming, mouth/denture care. Assists with elimination via urinals, bedpans, bowel and/or bladder programs. May collect urine and stool specimens. Assists with post mortem care. Assists and prepares residents for meals, including feeding. Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge of residents. Transports or walks residents as requested. Makes beds (both occupied and unoccupied). Provides emotional support to residents and families. Assists in care planning and gives/takes report on assigned residents. Maintains records and inventories. Answers phones as requested. Returns equipment and ensures it is properly labeled. Maintains a clean and safe unit/environment.

Communicates with patients and all members of thenursing team to relay appropriate information and provide patient care. Reinforces patient and family teaching. As part of a patient focused service, promotes supportive and healing environment so that customer and staff satisfaction is enhanced. Assists in emergency situations as directed by the RN/LPN. Assists RN/LPN in providing patient care according to individual needs by observing IV site appearance, assisting with range of motion, ambulation, patient transfers, diet, elimination, hygiene, performing pre-and -post-operative procedural care, and assisting with respiratory functions/procedures. Ensures that prescribed measures related to hygiene, comfort and rest are provided. May operate converter chair, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive BP monitors, automatic thermometer, sphygmomanometer, and pulse oximeter. Participates in shift report as required. Must be competent to perform procedures as delegated after observation by authorized teacher according to Department Policy. Seeks assistance as needed.

Maintains hospital and unit-specific competencies as required. Participates in unit-based and system-wide Performance Improvement Program. Supports cost efficient/effective delivery of care. Serves as a resource/model through compliance with standards of care and with Department of Nursing, Hospital and

organizational policies and procedures. Performs related responsibilities as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Certification by the state of Georgia as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Experience in a long term, geriatric health care facility preferred. Ability to read and understand written English words and sentences. Ability to do heavy lifting and moving of residents. Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions. Heartsaver certifications required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
