POSITION PURPOSE: Schematic Manager II responsible for leading merchandising strategy and schematic optimization for store/cluster schematics delivery via Galleria (assortment/space optimization engine). Responsible for delivering the incremental sales and profit from optimized store level schematics for each category. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Lead the by store/cluster schematic development via the Galleria tool, (assortment/space optimization engine); Serve as company "expert" on the optimization engine o Work with National and Divisional team members as the Galleria optimization expert to determine the best strategy and applicable "rule set" to use for a given category. o Execute best merchandising flow and blocking based on shopper needs and ability to maximize financial benefits through Galleria o Build store cluster templates in the Galleria tool to execute strategy o Maintain integrity of data inputs into Galleria o Develop analytics and reports to help deliver Galleria/cluster benefits * Collaborate with Sales Managers/Assistant Sales Managers focused on assortment optimization to ensure appropriate levels of cluster assortment execution * Train and educate Schematic Managers on Galleria tool functionality and benefits of Galleria * Serve as an Alberstons Company representative with Galleria for continued tool enhancements * Manage Schematic Analysts and manufacturer resources that are dedicated to categories that are executed through Galleria * Provide merchandising optimization expertise to center of store/new format initiatives KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Education Level: BA/BS degree preferably in Statistics, Marketing, Business, Economics or equivalent field. MBA a plus. Experience Level: * Familiar with a variety of concepts, practices and procedures found in Marketing organizations, consulting firms or equivalent. * Minimum 2 years managerial and supervisory experience in Marketing. * Minimum 5 years food retail merchandising, consumer packaged goods marketing and/or category management experience required. * Minimum 2 years planning, organizing, negotiating, and communicating experience. * 2-3 years project management experience. * Skilled user of PC, Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Project * Expert knowledge or retail, CPGs, and shopping behavior * Knowledge of Safeway operations, including the promotional, pricing and store stocking systems preferred * Working knowledge of Optura processes and procedures. * Broad knowledge of Optura merchandising and placement processes and initiatives. Extensive non-perishable product knowledge Skills and Background: * Proven strategic management experience, transforming vision into actionable strategies * Strong project management, leadership, analytical and problem solving skills * Ability to develop and champion new ideas and solutions * Excellent interpersonal and negotiating/influencing skills. * Excellent verbal, written, presentation skills with the ability to communicate with Management * Ability to handle multiple assignments and manage competing priorities with tight deadlines * Strong detail orientation. High degree of initiative and results orientation * Proficient in MS Office Suite, modeling, data manipulation tools, and relational databases * Extensive knowledge and understanding of the relation between product and shelf space. * Strong management skills with ability to develop new talent * Broad knowledge of SSIMS, VTSO, Apollo, Microsoft Office. * Team oriented with excellent time management and organization skills. * Customer service oriented with ability to maintain positive attitude in all situations. * Must be multi-task oriented and able to act as a liaison between all corporate departments. * Sterling integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality. * Able to effectively cope with change and comfortably handle risk and uncertainty
