Description

The primary objective of the Chipotle Development Department is to support Operations by finding, designing, constructing, and maintaining efficient restaurants with distinctive interior design, while pursuing sustainable building options and processes. Our approach to designing and building restaurants using more environmentally friendly building materials and systems is an expression of our Food With Integrity (FWI) commitment. The department seeks new sustainability initiatives as well as innovative FWI practices for all our restaurants.

The Restaurant Designer works on all aspects of design for new restaurant, major renovation, and special initiative projects. He/she helps ensure that all projects are delivered within established time frames and budget. The Designer possesses a full understanding of brand trade dress and design standards, and applies those to all applicable project phases. He/she also coordinates and reviews work of outside consulting architectural firms, as well as review of vendor shop drawings for projects. The Designer works with the Design Manager in performing design analysis, research, and development for all custom trade dress, kitchen, and signage systems relating to Chipotle’s design package.

Responsibilities

In addition to following Chipotle’s policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•Working with Design Managers with all aspects of new restaurant development projects

•Creating initial restaurant layouts based on site parameters

•Participating in team coordination meetings as required

•Reviewing initial project start-up materials including Letter of Intent and existing site drawings

•Reviewing outside consulting architectural firm design drawings and construction documents

•Participating in site visits during applicable phases of project and creating site reports

•Participating in project team kick-off calls

•Developing kitchen and dining room layouts, interior and exterior concept elevations, sections, and large-scale details in sketch form, obtaining necessary reviews of such layouts by project Design Manager

•Creating solutions for trade dress upgrades and changes; coordinating with outside vendors and consultants as necessary

•Collaborating with inter-disciplinary partners on new restaurant and special initiative projects

•Participating in special initiative projects, including new brand concepts, maintaining/creating design standards packages, and in-store marketing collaborations

The ideal candidate will:

•Be able to work independently on all aspects of new restaurant design

•Have excellent written and verbal communication skills

•Have solid planning, collaboration, and decision-making skills

•Be able to evaluate components of project costs relative to design

•Have the ability to develop positive relationships at all levels of the organization

•Be able to work within a high growth environment

•Be proficienct in applicable design tools (Revit/AutoCAD, Sketchup, Adobe CC Suite, Hand Sketching)

•Have proficiency in applicable project management programs (including Microsoft Office Suite)

•Have minimum 2 years’ experience in Architecture or Interior Design

•Have a B.A./B.S. in a related field; or an equivalent in education and experience

•Enjoy moderate travel
