About this job

Develops, implements, and evaluates regional clinical pharmacy programs for Pediatric patients, providers, and pharmacists. Maintains a clinical pharmacy practice to impact Pediatric patients at high risk for drug-related problems in area of expertise. Educates providers, pharmacists and other health care professionals re: Pediatric pharmaceutical care. Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of one's actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Maintains knowledge of and assures departmental compliance with Kaiser Permanente's Principles of Responsibility and policies and procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

Essential Functions:

* Develops and maintains a clinical pharmacy practice that includes: Drug therapy consultations for members and healthcare providers regarding Pediatric drug therapies. Participation in drug use initiatives and strategies to promote achieving targeted disease state goals and cost-effective prescribing especially as they relate to the Pediatric patient population. Provides continuing education and staff development in-services for pharmacists, physicians, and other health care providers especially in Pediatric drug therapies and protocols. Provides drug information to health care providers caring for Pediatric patients as well as members and families. Critically reviews medical literature to provide updates on drug therapy in Pediatrics. Documents all clinical interventions and drug information requests from appropriate providers. Demonstrated continued competency in Pediatric specialty area of pharmacy practice.

* Provides guidance and expertise when needed to Pediatric subspecialists regarding medications and medication delivery practices.

* Collaborates with other staff as necessary in development/revision of any policies and procedures related to appropriate delivery of medications to Pediatric patients.

* Works with KPMAS Infusion Services, Anticoagulation Clinic, ASC staff, CDU staff, and other areas of the organization as necessary to develop appropriate ways to enhance and augment delivery of pharmaceutical care for Pediatric patients.

* Participates in local, regional and interregional committees as appropriate.

* Precepts pharmacy students and residents.

* Develops and participates in research activities.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

* Completion of one (1) year residency related to practice area, or three (3) years of clinical practice experience required.

* One (1) year of experience in a pediatric setting required.

Education

* Pharm D Degree required.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

* Pharmacy licensure in the District of Columbia and Maryland required upon hire. Additional license in Virginia will be required within three (3) months after hire.

Additional Requirements:

* Board certification (BCPS) required within three (3) years of employment if previous experience includes PGY1 residency or a fellowship upon hire if previous experience does not include PGY1 residency or a fellowship.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience in both in-patient and out-patient pediatric settings preferred.

* PGY1 residency or a fellowship preferred.

* Specialty residency in pediatrics preferred.
