TITLE: Education Facilitator



RESPONSIBLE TO: School & Outreach Program Coordinator



SUPERVISES: N/A



 



BASIC FUNCTION:



This position is responsible for assisting teachers as they arrive at the Zoo for field trips with students and for assisting with the overall guest experience. Assistance to teachers will entail providing the group with a smooth exit from the school bus into the Zoo, providing parking instructions to bus drivers and consistently providing superior guest service. Required skills include an understanding of children of all ages, excellent organization, communication and leadership skills, patience, and the ability to diffuse problems quickly.



 



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Assisting school group field trips with entry and exit of the Zoo.

  • Providing educational information to school groups and Zoo visitors.

  • Other duties as assigned by the school and outreach program coordinator.



 



PHYSICAL EFFORT:




  • Position requires the ability to move about easily among various venues, both in and out of doors.

  • Occasional lifting of 40 to 50 pounds is required.

  • Position requires the ability to remain on feet for long periods of time, climb stairs, bend and stoop.

  • Sufficient mobility, vision and hearing are needed to ensure a safe work environment.



 



WORKING CONDITIONS:



Work is performed throughout the Zoo, as well as in spaces allocated for educational functions, both in and out of doors in all weather conditions.



 



RELATIONSHIPS:




  • Internal: Daily with employees

  • External: Daily with teachers, students, parents, visitors and volunteers



 



SKILLS NEEDED:




  • Skill in engaging audiences and public speaking.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with adult/juvenile volunteers, teachers, other Zoo staff and the public.

  • Skill in interacting with students and teachers.

  • Skill in organization, communication, patience and the ability to diffuse problems quickly.

  • Skills in providing outstanding customer service,

  • Must have a valid driver's license.



 



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:



High school diploma required. Some college education and guest service experience is preferred.



 



DECISION MAKING:



Decisions related to task priorities. Must be able to make decisions in fast paced environment.

N/A



 



EMOTIONAL:



High. Frequent short deadlines. Hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
