A successful Senior Systems Administrator will have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two years related experience and/or training; and four plus years of experience (minimum two years in system administration), or equivalent combination of education and experience (with development and database experience.)
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, piers and customers. Fundamental understanding in the areas of hardware devices, operating systems, databases and how they interrelate.  Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to define and analyze problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, written or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Create and maintain the Dish system environment(s) with emphasis on uptime, consistency, scalability and performance.

 

Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:

  • Responsible for learning and mastering system administration duties. Including, but not limited to, installation, monitoring, backup and recovery and tuning.
  • Work effectively with team of System Administrators to maintain uptime, consistency, scalability and performance while meeting business needs.
  • Work effectively with System Administrators, DBA’s, Programmers and Analysts to complete tasks in timely manner.
  • Learn environment – technical and business, through initiative and direction from senior staff.
  • Update SOX process documentation quarterly as required, complete quarterly SPOQ questionnaires as required and perform/monitor required SOX controls as described in Tutor documentation.
