Students Pharmacists currently enrolled in a professional pharmacy program are eligible to apply for this 8-week, highly structured summer internship program based in Seattle, WA. Each student pharmacist is assigned a preceptor that acts as a mentor throughout the program and helps the student develop the skills necessary to succeed in the community pharmacy setting. The student pharmacist will work in the pharmacy and be expected to counsel and educate patients under the supervision of his or her preceptor, provide prescription product, promote appropriate patient care services and consultation to every customer, and interact with other health care professionals in compliance with federal and state laws as well as pharmacy policies and procedures. In addition, the student pharmacist will be exposed to and learn about a variety of medical conditions that are commonly encountered in the community pharmacy setting. The student pharmacist will also spend time at the area office and be expected to work independently and with fellow interns to develop various projects, as well as receive training in providing patient care services. Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Develop a presentation discussing an assigned over-the-counter drug product or drug class Work on various sample patient cases and gain practice in performing drug utilization reviews Work with peers on a company approved project related to the profession Must perform all duties under the supervision of a registered pharmacist or designated pharmacist preceptor: Take all steps required to fill prescriptions in compliance with all laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures regarding the sale of pharmaceuticals Assist with and respond in a courteous and professional manner to questions from customers and health care professionals in regards to knowledge of prescriptions, drug therapy, and health related products and issues Offer advice and patient consultation in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and efficiently handles customer complaints Communicate and cooperate in a respectful manner with peers, subordinates, managers, physicians, and customers in all pharmacy related areas with courtesy, dignity and respect Job Requirements: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited school of pharmacy Must hold a valid state intern license if required by the state of employment Must have excellent communication skills with patients and other healthcare professionals Desire to promote and participate in the patient care services programs that the company has to offer Ability to readily and positively adapt to changes in schedule specifications and work priorities as the business and customer needs demand Ability to successfully work independently as well as part of a team With more than 1,700 pharmacies nationwide, Albertsons Safeway Inc., is one of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States, with both a strong local presence and national scale.
