Position Description:

Join the community's Public Health Team and provide needed health services to Sarasota County as a member of the Disease Intervention Services team. "Health in Motion", the Health Department's mobile medical unit (MMU) travels throughout the county, stopping at select sites to provide health education, assessments and services at little to no charge to uninsured and underinsured populations. The large, modern mobile unit is staffed with a driver/tech and a registered nurse who is responsible for providing nursing services, including screenings, testing and immunizations, related to disease detection and prevention. This position requires an independent professional nurse with solid decision-making skills, able to relate to people with diverse demographic and cultural backgrounds.

This position will perform nursing assessments, health promotion and disease prevention services including, wellness assessments, health screening, sexually transmitted disease (STD) tests and immunizations. Clinical and educational services will be provided three days a week on the Medical Mobile Unit. This position will also cross train and support communicable disease staff two days a week in the investigation of reportable diseases, including TB.

This is a responsible position which independently and cooperatively provides clinical, outreach, and educational services to the community for adults and children in accordance with DOH Sarasota policies and procedures.

Medical Mobile Unit Duties and Responsibilities

Performs screening procedures, interprets result to participant and provides pertinent educational information, referrals and referral follow-up.

Performs nursing assessments, health promotion and disease prevention services including; wellness assessments, health screening, HIV and STD tests and immunizations.

Independently provides comprehensive nursing care for children and adults receiving preventive care through DOH Sarasota MMU, in accordance with DOH, agency and other applicable guidelines regarding disease.

Establishes/seeks most productive service sites through community contacts on an on-going basis.

Documents care and maintains accurate, comprehensive patient records in accordance with agency standards and procedures.

Is assigned to ancillary DOH departments as required, and within skill set, when the Medical Mobile Unit is not in service

Communicable Disease Duties and Responsibilities

Conducts surveillance, investigation and reporting of notifiable diseases and conditions of public health importance

Assists in coordination of communicable disease outbreaks/epidemics effectively utilizing Local, Regional, State and CDC resources.

Performs nursing appraisals

Maintains accurate and complete medical records. The employer, Department of Health, County Health Department is the records owner of the medical records as defined by Section 455.667 F.S.

Maintains client confidentiality in a manner consistent with Chapter 384.29, F.S. and FDOH policy
