Job Summary:

This position works under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and reports to the Coordinator of ED Tech position/Director, Emergency Department. Provides support for the direct management of the patient's environment and works with the nurses and physicians as a team member in coordinating emergency patient care.

Essential Duties:

Provides clerical and communication support related to operations of the department and patient care.

Responds appropriately to the emergency radio logs and relays ambulance report to RN/Physician.

Processes data entry of physician orders and other patient reports.

Maintains current data on patient; charts results.

Able to enter orders and retrieve data on MIC.

Participates in the patient's environment.

Prepares rooms for patient arrival

Maintains equipment in working order

Maintains adequate stock of supplies as listed.

Responsible for room and equipment cleaning upon patient dismissal.

Provides clinical support within the levels of preparation.

Works directly with patients in supplementing care, transporting pre and post care and dismissal functions.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the physical, psychosocial, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Adheres to the Nursing Structure and Process Standards and patient's plan of care.

Performs and assists in selected procedures and treatments.

Assists the nurse to maintain observations of patients by anticipating and responding to patients needs.

Ensures that the Nurse/Physician remains informed of changes in patient status and activities

Collects and documents patient data.

Maintains patient confidentiality.

May serve as a preceptor role for the Emergency Department (ED) Tech I for new associates.

Assists with development and implementation of ED Tech skills and responsibilities.

Provides preceptorship for EMT students scheduled for experience in the department

Education:

1. High school graduate or equivalent.

2. Current certification: Current EMT, CNA, State of Nebraska Registry, or National Registry as an EMT or a student enrolled in an accredited program---a newly licensed RN/LPN may continue to work in that capacity until scheduled into hospital nursing orientation.

3. Completion of training for identified essential function required for continued employment.

4. Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.

Licensure/Certification:

1. Maintain EMT certification/active RN education program/current CNA certificate.

2. Currently on the Medication Aide Registry or obtain training, complete competency and be registered on the Medication Aide Registry within 30 days of hire.

3. Maintain Medication Aide Registry status with demonstrated competency every two years.

4. Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Experience/Pre-Requisites:

1. Prior EMT/CNA or hospital experience preferred.

2. Must be able to work from verbal or written instructions and uses judgment for routine situations.
