Position Purpose: The Cook is responsible for the preparation and serving of food to patients, staff and visitors while maintaining a clean and safe environment in the food service area.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Position Reports To: Food Service Manager
Position Supervises: None
Interpersonal Relationships: As a representative of Springwoods Behavioral Health, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct affect on the Facility's image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, family members, physicians, referral sources, affiliating schools, visitors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork, which is congruent with facility standards and guidelines to promote positive relations.

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
1. Ability to follow menus and instruct Food Service Workers.
2. Ability to ensure sanitation of department.
3. Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations related to measurement and proportioning of foods.
4. Ability to interact in a positive manner and communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, supervisor and other hospital employees.
5. Ability to supervise subordinate staff to achieve effective delivery of services.
6. Must have skill sets to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
7. Ability to read, write, speak and follow written and oral directions.
Cook POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Licenses or Certifications: Certified Dietary Manager certification preferred. CPR and AED to be obtained within two (2) weeks of date of hire
Total education, vocational training and experience: High school diploma or equivalent. One year previous experience in a food service setting in an institutional setting. Training or experience in preparation of food for therapeutic diets or hospital food service preferred.
