Position Summary:

Plan, organize and implement multi-faceted recreation activities for patients. Supervise and instruct patients in activities and techniques designed to meet their specific physical or psychological needs. Assist patients to and from activities including outings. Maintain Q-15 minute checks while patients are attending recreation therapy sessions. Communicate with treatment team regarding patient care.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills required for working with patients and their families. Must be dependable as well as have a genuine interest in people. This position has flexible hours, and will include weekend hours.

Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand for sustained period of time, walk, pull, lift objects from a lower to higher position or horizontally from position to position express or exchange ideas orally and potentially loudly, accurately or quickly. Must be able to lead patients in a variety of exercises, including calisthenics, aerobics, weight lifting and all sport activities and assist in crisis intervention prevention/therapeutic holds on out of control patients. Must be able to perform CPR and run after patients, if needed. Moving, lifting and turning of patients may be required. Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds .

Education and/or Experience

Must have CTRS, or be a license recreational therapist required in physical education or creative activitiesor license music therapist. One year of experience in recreational or creative activities, preferably in a psychiatric setting.
