Responsible for performing selected clinical and clerical duties that assist in caring for the personal and comfort needs of patients/families. These duties are delegated in relation to the level of training and in accordance with practice objectives and polices. Requires knowledge of the behaviors, developmental stages, physical and emotional needs, life cycle changes, culture, and comfort and care appropriate to the population served. Populations served by the department are identified in the department's scope of service. QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Requires graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Current CMA certification preferred. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider CPR preferred or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Certification at point of hire or must obtain AHA Health Care Provider CPR within 1st week of orientation prior to patient care required. Requires to expand and maintain professional knowledge / skills through continuing education. Requires effective communication skills, written and oral. May have the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time; frequent walking, some stooping and bending is required. Must have the ability to lift and transfer clients up to 6 inches from a stooped position then pushing and pulling the weight up to 3 feet. Must have the ability to lift and transfer patients from a stooped to an upright position to accomplish exam bed to chair and chair to exam table transfers, minimally 50 pounds singly and estimated 100-350 pounds from multiple sources. Must have the ability to physically apply up to 10 pounds of pressure to bleeding sites or in performing CPR. Must have the ability to evaluate problem situations with judgment and discretion and report to RN, physician, or provider. Must have the ability to manage several assignments simultaneously and appropriately prioritize based on caseload and patient needs. Must have the ability to read simple directions and apply new knowledge to complete tasks. Must have the ability and capacity to document in clear and concise fashion with appropriate grammar and word usage. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, physicians, co-workers, manager and other personnel on a one-to-one basis using appropriate grammar, vocabulary and word usage. Must have the ability to respond and react immediately with unimpeded auditory perception of verbal / vocal instructions and auditory auscultation. Must have the ability to respond and react to visual observation. Must have the ability to occasionally lift and carry items (i.e., files, supplies) weighing up to 50 pounds. Must have the ability to push and pull patients and associated equipment when transporting. Must have the ability to perform the basic patient lifting through in-service for proper technique when transporting. Must have the ability to walk at a very fast pace while transporting patients from one area to another in critical situations. Must have the ability to exhibit manual dexterity for performing specimen collection when performing phlebotomy duties. Must have the ability to exhibit manual and finger dexterity, handle small tubes and labels when performing phlebotomy duties. ,
