Wekiva Springs Center is a 68-bed acute behavioral health hospital providing quality care in a gender-specific program for men and women. We provide treatment for mental health, addictions and dual diagnosis concerns in a warm and caring atmosphere near I-95 and J Turner Butler in Southside area. The Night Nursing Supervisor's duties are the following:
Assists in development and implementation of nursing programs and activities on assigned program
Facilitates communication among multidisciplinary staff, including clinical and administrative staff
Determines and implements nursing system of delivery of patient care in conjunction with the Director of Nursing
Organizes, directs and delegates the supervision of nursing personnel assigned to the unit
Meets regularly with the Director of Nursing to provide consistency with the nursing department and communicate pertinent issues on the units
Assists in orientation and staff development activities for assigned shift
Organizes and facilitates the daily operations of the nursing department
Participates and provides input to nursing and facility-wide committees
As needed, schedules staff on an 8-hour basis keeping in mind budgetary restraints while maintaining quality of patient care. Assumes responsibility for adequate staffing coverage
Manages FTE ratios in correspondence with unit's patient census and adheres to FTE grids
Facilitates therapeutic milieu and implementation of nursing interventions consistent with individual needs of the adults and staffing patterns. Assists in clinical resolution of issues.
Demonstrates knowledge of nursing department philosophy and assumes responsibility for maintaining standards of nursing practice and standards of care for all patients
Provides for ongoing evaluation and training of assigned staff. Ensures competency checklists are properly completed.
Demonstrates knowledge of clinical department philosophy and assumes responsibility for maintaining best practice standards of care for all patients
In consultation with Director of Nursing and the Human Resources Director, may assist in interviewing of potential staff, evaluates designated staff and conducts performance reviews for assigned staff. Appropriately disciplines assigned nursing personnel in agreement with the Director of Nursing and the Director of Human Resources.
Maintains environment in which employees are motivated and morale is high
Assists in ensuring all staff is in compliance with orientation and in-service education programs
Demonstrates full level of awareness of unit milieu, prioritizes and provides appropriate guidance to staff
Effectively utilizes PRN/Part-time employees when scheduling to minimize overtime
Observes and interprets behavior, which demonstrates an understanding of psychiatric concepts, diagnoses and developmental stage
Assists in assessing and the admission of new patients
Assists with family issues of patients and intervenes when necessary on behalf of the unit's nursing staff
Formulates and assists nursing staff in nursing diagnosis/problem statements
Assists unit nursing and clinical staff in identification of normal and abnormal/problematic physiological, psychological and social factors supervises integration of findings into assessment of the patient(s)
Prioritizes nursing care interventions according to individual patient and overall unit milieu needs
Collaborates with the Medical Director and Director of Nursing as pertains to patient care issues
Provides or directs skilled nursing care in complex clinical situations with adults
Ensures the implementation and maintenance of nursing and clinical policies and procedures specific to the designated shifts and units
Assists in development and review of current nursing practices and theories that apply to designated unit
Effectively utilizes the Nursing Process as the basis for nursing care
Plans and organizes nursing assignments/interventions according to patient needs and assures integration into the multidisciplinary treatment plan(s)
Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in administration of psychopharmacological, physiological and psychotherapeutic interventions
Utilizes knowledge of actions indications contraindications side effects correct dose/routes and nursing implications of all medications and in the supervision of nurses
Consistently directs administration of medication according to hospital policy and procedure
Intervenes with good judgment in medical and psychiatric emergencies
Consistently demonstrates ability to communicate with client in establishing favorable attitudes and motivating him/her to reach desired cooperation and effort in rehabilitative development
Demonstrates knowledge of legal implications of clinical practice
Assists in the coordination and evaluation of student and visitor education on the unit
Consistently provides/directs patient and family education that is developmentally appropriate
Assists in treatment planning, revision of treatment care and reassessment of patient along with physicians and multidisciplinary staff
Collects data for performance improvement monitoring activities
Professionally collaborates with all staff members to facilitate the coordinate contribution to patient care and implementation of corrective action plans
Assures continuity of care and effective communication with families and referral sources
Maintains and monitors conduct of route inspection/check for patient and unit safety
Corrects/reports hazardous conditions/equipment in the environment of care
Notifies Director of Nursing and/or Administration for any unusual problem or occurrence on the unit. Ensure completion of all report forms
Completes administrative report for Director of Nursing
Reports illnesses of staff to Employee Health Nurse
Monitors attendance of designated staff
Determines appropriate critical issues and contacts the Administrator on call when needed
Qualified candidates must be meet the following qualifications:
Must be a Registered Nurse within the State of Florida with a valid license
Must have at least a minimum of 3 years of Nursing experience, preferably in a Psychiatric/Mental Health inpatient setting
Must have at least 1-year supervisory experience as a Nurse
Must be willing to work 11p to 8a Monday through Friday
Must be able to manuever throughout the hospital
Communicate effectively with all staff, patient and family members
Able to assist with verbal de-escalation and physically assist with patient restraints if needed
Must have good critical thinking and able to deal with stressful situations well
Must have valid CPR certification
Familiar with Microsoft Office and Outlook
