JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Purchasing is responsible for the overall purchasing and procurement strategy and tactical implementation of all the products and services to achieve service and inventory goals as well as the development of best in class processes to drive service level improvement. He or she will work across functional and geographic boundaries to ensure high levels of customer service and satisfaction relative to inventory service levels and management and communication of inventory failures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Identify, develop and mentor key talent to ensure success of all individuals in the department.
• Develop purchasing strategies, policies and procedures.
• Manage the tactical operations of the product sourcing and purchasing function & staff by placing purchase orders verbally, electronically, etc. for all goods and services.
• Manage material flow to insure inventory is maintained to the optimum level to support on time customer deliveries while keeping inventory holdings at the appropriate levels.
• Collaborate with operations management team to ensure accurate forecasting and inventory planning
• Liaise with counterparts in other functional areas such as operations, sales, and finance to ensure alignment of activities and objectives.
• Identify vendor opportunities and challenges and partner with the operations team to ensure appropriate product and branding representation.
• Establishing and maintaining measurable performance metrics for all levels of procurement activities to include but not limited to supplier performance, supplier quality, internal order placement performance, buyer activity levels, financial (AP) performance, and material shortage elimination.
• Report to management the measurable status of progress and corrective actions as it pertains to supplier performance.
• Ensure performance improvement and recovery plans are developed, issued, tracked and reported on as required for supply base management and improvement.
• Negotiate and execute purchase orders or vendor contracts as needed to support the critical business needs.
• Strategically develop and implement product and service strategies covering all products, services and supplier processes to deliver maximum value, leverage, and cost reduction.
• Manages all activities that develop relationships with suppliers.
• Develops an overall vendor base which creates and sustains a competitive advantage, utilizing global market exploitation, leveraging spend, and leveraging of technologies.
• Manages product savings initiatives in line with profit plan and overall business objectives.

• Maintains a clean, neat work environment
• Completes all tasks in a timely manner as instructed by the Senior Vice President, Corporate Operations
• Cooperates with senior management and coworkers to ensure that services can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of internal and external customers
• Treats clients, vendors and associates with courtesy, respect and dignity

Safety and Risk Management
• Understands and follows safety and security procedures
• Practices preventative safety procedures as set forth by Towne Park
• Reports all accidents and incidents to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Operations
• Uses only equipment trained to use and operates all equipment in a safe manner
• Reports all potential high risk areas and safety concerns to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Operations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Inquisitive, detail-oriented with strong quantitative analytical skills and an innovative approach to problem solving
• Strong computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office
• Knowledge and experience with Reqlogic is a plus
• Strong written communication and presentation skills required
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, with awareness of deadlines.
• Ability to identify processes needing improvement, and to recommend improvements

QUALIFICATIONS
• B.A. or B.S. Degree required with relevant (operations, business, logistics, etc.) field of study preferred
• 5+ years relevant product management & purchasing experience preferably in company of similar construct
• Strong working knowledge of inventory planning, forecasting techniques as well as purchasing systems and platforms.
• Experience with negotiations and contract management
