Star Refrigeration in Waterloo, IA has an opening for a helper/apprentice Refrigeration Mechanic.

This is more than a job, it is the first step in a well paying career.  Journeymen mechanics typically make $60,000-$100,00/year.

We are looking for that someone who wants more than just a job, someone willing to make a commitment to learn a trade

In learning this trade you will learn:

• Electrical trouble shooting skills, single phase, three phase, line voltage and low voltage.
• How to read a wiring schematic
• How electrical devices such as motors, relays, timers, transformers, pressure switches and thermostats work
• Soldering,welding and brazing
• Principals of ventilation and airflow
• Analyze sequence of operation, what needs to happen first
• How the refrigeration cycle works and how to trouble shoot it
• pipe fitting
• mechanical skills, how to use tools

We spend our days going from call to call at:

• grocery stores
• schools
• hospitals
• hotels
• restaurants
• cafeterias
• lockers
• care centers
• and many other places you would not expect

To qualify for this position you must be able to:

• climb a ladder on to a roof
• lift 50lbs
• bend,kneel and reach
• work in confined spaces
• work outdoors both summer and winter
• work 8-5 M-F to start, eventually being on call 24hrs a day on a rotating basis
• attend additional training to obtain journey's men license
