Underwriter - Shelton, CT - Full-time / Part-time

Primary Responsibilities:

Understand and apply appropriate mathematical formulas to determine rates, assess risk and financial impact
Interpret claim reports to properly determine rating action
Provide overall support to the underwriting process
Maintains knowledge of market trends, competitiveness compared to other carriers and/or industry changes
Ensures compliance with procedures and maintains appropriate documentation
Effectively collaborates with internal stakeholders
The individual will responsible for underwriting new business prospect and renewals for the NY & NJ markets of the Northeast Underwriting Team. He / She will be responsible for managing deadlines & tracking financial information for each group. The individual will work collaboratively with the underwriting team as well as with sales to strategize & negotiate to sell and renew business.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree required (Math, Finance, Business, Economic preferred)
Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Office suite (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Finance, Business, or Economics
1+ years of experience in underwriting
