Job Summary To provide complex and specialized administrative support to a University of Michigan faculty member with dual appointments at the VAMC and UMHS, specializing in on-going multi-year biochemical research.

Specific duties include: assisting with the preparation and submission of all peer-reviewed manuscripts, as well as the optimization of graphics and figure files to publication standards; preparation of technical scientific conference materials, including presentations, banners, and posters; interacting with publication editorial staffs, faculty-level lab collaborators in local, national, and international institutions regarding manuscript preparation and submission; organize travel for PI and collaborators and prepare expense reports; process all orders for laboratory goods and services including controlled substances; compare and verify expenditures to UM Statements of Activity and providing corrective actions when necessary, and review financials upon request with PI; coordinate orientation of all new lab workers and collaborators, regarding such things as VA paperwork requirements, safety issues, VA background check requirements; interact with the International Center on behalf of laboratory personnel; other assigned duties.

Required Qualifications* A minimum of 4 years of experience in an administrative support capacity. Position requires an independent self-starter with demonstrated problem solving skills, able to adapt in a flexible and fast-changing digital environment. The candidate should be able to juggle the administrative demands required to coordinate two large bureaucracies to whom the laboratory reports. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Demonstrated writing and editing experience preferred. BA degree required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs required. Working knowledge of UM systems such as M-Pathways, Concur, Wolverine Access, eResearch, and P-Card management preferred but not required.

Work Locations Position is located at the VA Medical Center.
