Our Sushi department provides customers with a variety of delicious raw, cooked, and vegetable sushi rolls. In this position, you’ll play a valuable role by creating fresh sushi products for our case as well as made-to-order items for our customers, If you have a passion for sushi and are looking to develop your culinary skills and talents, this could be the role for you!

Providing Incredible, Knowledge Based Customer Service

• Effectively handle and prioritize a variety of tasks, prepare items, and share knowledge by answering questions about products and offering suggestions
• Prepare products upon request to meet the needs of the customers and ensure product is available throughout the day, especially during peak times

Ensuring High Quality Products & Ingredients

• Assist team leader by prioritizing tasks, learning duties and responsibilities of the job, seeking to become proficient in preparing all items, and performing other essential tasks
• Follow Wegmans core recipes, production lists, and proper knife skills to ensure a quality and consistent outcome and reduce shrink
• Set up Sushi case, ensure products are well-merchandised to showcase quality and freshness
• Properly handle products, use equipment, keep accurate logs and follow sanitation practices in accordance with food and human safety guidelines and Simplification 5S procedures

• Have knowledge of fish species

Preferred Skills and Experience

• One or more years experience working as a Sushi cook
• Associates or Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts
• Ability to produce 40 packages of high quality Sushi per hour
• Experience cutting sashimi and sushi neta
• Customer service experience preferably in a food service, restaurant, grocery or retail setting

Work Environment

• Work involves continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
• Typical motions include repetitive hand and are movements, bending and reaching
• Responsible for moving and lifting 5-20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds rarely
• Will spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
• May be exposed to various allergens and work environments, including temperature changes
