We are seeking dynamic and motivating people to work at the Children's Museum of Houston's gift shop. The associate will be responsible to insure the visual appearance of the store and high standards of customer service and accurate cash handling.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Customer service: greeting each visitor, offering help, and completing sale transactions.
  • Register operations: opening, closing, customer transactions, securing money at closing in safe.
  • Freight: stocking, pricing, putting overstock in stockroom. Doing a daily pull. Keeping stockrooms clearn and in order.
  • Store appearance: dusting daily, vacuuming when needed, straightening, fronting and facing merchandise, and keeping items stocked.
  • Markdowns: recording on markdown sheet, adjusting inventory in POS, tallying the cost of items.
  • Cafe backup: helping in the cafe as needed (register, running food, cleaning, taking orders)
  • Count sheets: counting inventory when asked to insure accurate level.
  • Train new employees in all aspects of the gift shop.
  • Turn in all paper work nightly (sign-off sheet, packing slips, coupons, ect.)
  • "Sell" to the visitor, not merely a "hi may I help you" and ignore them when they say "no, just looking"
  • Year end inventory
  • Other duties as assigned / needed

Education Required

Prefer high school diploma or currently attending school.

Skills Required

Register experience

  • Frequent light lifting, 40% to 70% of the time over 5lbs. to 25lbs.
  • Inside Gallery Shop conditions for majority of work time
  • Available to work late on Thursday for Free Family Night, some holidays, weekends - a very flexible schedule.
