POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Merchandiser's primary function is to support the display and stocking of Nestl products at various customer sites in accordance to plan-o-gram specifications through executing world class service. This includes demonstrating sound safety practices while merchandising product, replenishing store freezers from back-room inventory, improving shelf positioning, increasing product display space, ensuring retail price tags are properly displayed, maintaining all Point-of-Sales materials, utilizing current flavor schematics for all products, establishing rapport/credibility with store personnel, and fostering strong communication with co-workers. The position requires driving to grocery store customers in a personal vehicle, for which mileage reimbursement will be provided per company policy.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Merchandise frozen ice cream and pizza products to drive sales in various grocery accounts.

* Build and maintain relationships with appropriate customers in all accounts, communicate with customers during service calls and respond to customer requests.

* Follow operational standard procedures that outline route schedules (Deliver, Merchandise and Order, also known as "DMO"), merchandising principles, filling frozen shelves with product, rotating product regularly, and front facing product.

* Maintain company-owned equipment and properly handle paperwork.

* Ensure stores set to correct flavor and tag schematics, promotional displays are properly executing, and store back stock is maintained and organized.

* Identify and communicate all selling opportunities and potential issues to sales representative, respond to co-worker communications, informs co-workers of all relevant activities at accounts, communicate completion of assigned daily tasks.

* Communicate directly with co-workers on issues, openly share ideas with others, encourage performance in others, give feedback when needed, and train new employees when applicable.

* Conduct activities in a safe manner, follow corporate safety guidelines and requirements (no cell phones while driving, proper bending, etc.), use personal protective equipment, and proactively address any unsafe conditions observed.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & EDUCATION LEVEL:

* Must be at least 18 years of age

* High School Diploma / GED equivalent

* Must have reliable transportation to and from work

* Must have a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle with valid insurance

* Successful completion of post offer background checks, drug screen, and motor vehicle report

* Must be willing to work a flexible schedule which may include early morning/late night hours; Willing to work any day of the week, weekends, Holidays and required over-time as specific to role

* Must possess basic math and computer skills

* Ability to work safely

* Ability to read, write and speak English

* 1-2 years of Grocery experienced preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Willing to work in extreme temperatures and maneuver in retail/warehouse/customer freezers. Subject to cold temperatures, -20 degrees Fahrenheit while working in store freezer units up to 20 minutes, 5-7 times daily.

* Hands/Arms: Constantly, using both hands/arms throughout work shift while forward reaching, handling, gripping, power grasping, fingering and above shoulder reaching while stocking Nestl frozen products. Flexion and extension of the wrists when transporting the carry aid and returns to the back of the warehouse and moving the product on the carry aids from the shelving units in the store freezers.

* Head/Neck: Frequently, moving head and neck while loading/unloading items from vehicle to carry aids, carry aids to freezer shelves, performing back room stocking duties and off-loading pallets of products to freezer carry aids.

* Lifting/Carrying: Frequently, 1-5 pounds of individual Nestl frozen product up to 800-1000 items per stop or 2,500-4,000 items daily, no carrying. Occasionally (15%) up to 40 pounds boxed pizza and/or 6-8 pack ice cream product from pallet to freezer rack or six-wheel cart, carrying short distance up to six feet.

* Pushing/Pulling: Frequently, using both hands/arms while moving materials via wheeled cart, exerting a force up to 15-35 pounds depending on surface/slope. Rarely up to 35-75 pounds of force moving palletized load using pallet jack.

* Bending/Twisting: Frequently, at waist 30-45 degrees while loading/unloading items from carts to freezer shelves, performing back room stocking duties and off-loading pallets of Nestl frozen products to freezer carts. Bending over to properly place safety cone in the correct location. Torso flexion while bending over and stooping when loading product from the carry aid into the freezer units.

* Kneeling/Crouching: Occasionally, while stocking freezer display shelves or off-loading pallets at floor level.

* Standing/Walking: Frequently, while performing some duties in customer locations, walking up to four hours per shift on concrete or tiled surfaces.

* Sitting: Occasionally (10%), while driving vehicle between customer locations. Potential for awkward posture during entry and exit of vehicle. Static position when driving vehicle to and from customer locations.

* Climbing: Seldom or not at all, depending on employee height and store setup/location, using small step ladder.

* Balance: Wet and icy conditions in freezer units and condensation on tile floors as well as leaning into freezer units to stock shelves.

* Sight/Hearing/Speech: Constantly, required to ensure safe operation of vehicle and perform essential functions at retail customer locations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

* Work is performed 90% indoors and 10% outdoors while operating personal vehicle between customer locations. Work regularly in cold temperatures (-20 degrees Fahrenheit) up to 20 minutes, 5-7 times a day.

* Hazards: Slippery surfaces; uneven work surfaces, wet and icy, exposure to cold, cuts, pinch points and overhead obstacles in freezers, moving equipment and normal traffic hazards while operating personal vehicle.

* Equipment Used: Hand truck, wheeled cart/rack, self-retracting razor blade, and personal vehicle. Pallet jacks, forklift trucks, hydraulic lifts, and other pallet handling equipment are to be used only if properly trained and with manager authorization.

* Safety Equipment: Seat belts, gloves, safety cones, chamois, jacket, high visibility vest and knee pads. High ankle support, slip resistant and anti-fatigue steel toed or composite safety shoes.
