On behalf of American Institutes for Research (AIR), Headway Workforce Solutions is seeking Part-Time Data Collectors to work on a school-based research study across the state of Alabama. Part-Time Data Collectors will conduct observations of First Class Pre-K Classrooms using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and Preschool Quality Assessment (PQA) instruments.


American Institutes for Research (AIR) is a behavioral and social science research organization. AIR’s overriding goal is to use the best science available to bring the most effective ideas and approaches to enhancing everyday life.


Individuals who have experience working with young children in schools or child care settings, are encouraged to apply, including retired teachers and substitute teachers. Pay for this position begins at $15 per hour but will vary based on experience. Mileage will be reimbursed at $.54 per mile.


As a Part-Time Data Collector, you will…

  • Conduct standardized classroom observations of First Class Pre-K classrooms.
  • Observe classrooms 20 – 30 hours per week for approximately 4 - 6 weeks in September and October 2016.
  • Complete and return all assignments and classroom observation data according to required deadlines.
  • Participate in scheduled calls with project coordinator.
  • Submit time, mileage, and expense forms weekly.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, child development, psychology, or related field, or equivalent knowledge of early childhood education.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with both adults and children.
  • Ability to work well independently and under the direction of project coordinators.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 90 miles and/or 90 minutes regularly for site visits/classroom observations.
  • Access to personal, reliable transportation.
  • You must have access to a reliable computer, personal email account, and high-speed internet.

Training and Schedule

  • Paid, in-person, mandatory training is tentatively scheduled for the first or second week of September 2016 in Montgomery, AL
  • Further employment is contingent upon successful completion training and passing a certification test after completion.
  • Ability to work between approximately 7:30 am and 3 pm (20-30 hours/week) during data collection.
  • Qualified candidates should be available to commit for the full length of the study.
