Under the direct supervision of the VP of Product Management for FICS, this candidate will perform all duties as assigned relative to the branding and successful implementation of new products with initial emphasis on Claims and Payments Services, and Commercial EDI.  The candidate will serve as a bridge for these products from the Architect & Development Team to stakeholders, clients, subject matter experts and all operational sales and support teams.  The Sr. Director of Product Management shall be responsible for managing the product management, enhancement, and roll - out of these and other strategic product lines as well as project schedules and deliverables.  
 
Primary Responsibilities:

Market Analysis and Strategic Planning

Manage and lead the product teams that research, analyze, and monitor healthcare industry needs and trends
Define business value of potential solutions for target markets in order to guide and prioritize development of products, features, (or their components) for Development Teams
Specify market requirements for current and future products through market research, industry experience, and design inputs from stakeholders, customers and prospects
Support ongoing management of product portfolio, including managing the long term product development roadmap
Participate in defining strategic pricing models for new and existing products considering competitive pricing models, internal costs, value proposition metrics (e.g., benefits, savings to clients, process costs, etc.), market acceptance and adoption rates and present final pricing recommendations to executive management for approval
Use analytical skills to assimilate complex data and concepts for development of comprehensive business cases, business / functional requirements, and / or product specifications as inputs to decision - making, prioritization, pricing, client value proposition and Development Team requirements
Follow a structured, repeatable process for conducting market research and competitive analysis (including industry publications, analyst research, experiential research, client surveys, etc.) and supply to internal departments and stakeholders appropriately in support of strategic initiatives
Comply and follow Optum Product development methodology, processes and best practices
Product Development Lifecycle and Ongoing Improvement

Manage product lifecycle process including ideation, product concepts, exploration, approval, requirements, design, development, launch, execution, and ongoing measurement, ensuring that execution is aligned with Optum product development methodology, process and best practices
Maintain strong and well documented product development life cycle milestones
Participate in making decisions regarding product direction and be held accountable for those decisions
Actively manage the enhancement requests and end - user feedback process to identify and assess opportunities for product innovation and ongoing development with the goal of increasing product usage
Follow Optum product development processes standards and best practices
Increase profitability of existing products and services to support development of new solutions that advance business objectives and client needs
Simultaneously manage multiple products in varying stages of the product life cycle
Product Knowledge, Training, and Support

Work with Architect & Development Teams to obtain thorough working knowledge of all applicable products. Provide, or manage, product training, presentations, sales tools, training materials and technical expertise to support internal departments such as sales, implementation, support staff, client relations, operations, clinical, marketing and other internal stakeholders as needed
Assist with resolution of critical problems in the field
Marketing & Communications

Execute creative strategies, campaigns and user case studies to increase marketplace presence and augment brand awareness
Provide input for marketing collateral to develop the 'go to market packaging'
Collaborate with marketing to develop product - marketing strategies based on established product objectives, costs, and value proposition
Review research with marketing to quantify the value proposition and inputs to the pricing analysis and marketing collateral
Serve as a communication conduit between end - users, Product Analysts, Architects, Developers, and Executives
Monitoring & Reporting

Provide Executive Operations Team with regular written key performance metrics on all Products
Develop and maintain a strategic planning approach for summarizing and communicating the results of aggregate research
In cases where the product has a distinct P&L, the Sr. Product Director has responsibility for managing the product's P&L to ensure profitability for product initiatives
Communicate and collaborate with influence leaders in diverse functional areas (e.g., technology, clinical, sales, operations) regarding product needs and organizational prioritization
Develop strong working relationships and facilitate close communication with key stakeholders, including but not limited to: marketing, sales, support staff, product development, vendors, senior management, and key customers
Prepare, deliver and / or facilitate public speaking and authoring opportunities to advance market awareness of clinical quality improvements, operational efficiencies, and market initiatives made possible or enhanced through the use of Optum products and / or services

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

Ability to identify needs and market requirements by conducting market research that is supported by internal and external constituents
Technical savvy that translates into providing critical input that would help prioritize features and updates for new future releases
Proven track record of business development and cultivating long - term business relationships
Excellent presentation skills
Aptitude in working well with teams, communicating ideas, and thinking creatively
Proficient technical knowledge in Software Development, IT, Web based services
Able to break large solutions down to the level of individual user stories
Some college
8+ years of experience as a Sr. Product Director or Master’s Degree in a related field
5+ years of experience as a Sr. Product Director or a Product Manager in the healthcare industry
Experience in project management, developing business requirements, and managing completion of projects by 3rd party resources
Exposure to mobile / digital product development, either with a consulting organization, independent software organization, or large company
Involved in at least one product launch - from start to finish; and have a working knowledge of mobile and web solution architectures and platforms
Experience with and knowledge of contact center, EMR, mobile and web technology - specifically smart phone capabilities, text messaging, contact center, mobile web and app development approaches and platforms
Travel required: 25%
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in payments, financial transactions, claims processing, EHR / EMR software / systems
