JOB PURPOSE:

Provide work direction to deli staff and ensure courteous, high quality service is provided to deli customers.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum six months’ experience in food preparation and handling is necessary; one year of experience is preferred.
  • Good interpersonal skills are required in order to provide courteous customer service and provide effective training and work direction to deli staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with inspectors and vendors.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Basic math skills are necessary to calculate inventory usage, weights, costs and volume.
  • Must be able to complete required training in specified training periods. Must successfully complete specialized training on food preparation, handling and storage.
  • Must be able to read and apply procedures, recipes and other operating instructions.
  • Must be able to operate microwaves, small ovens, scales and other cooking equipment.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds throughout the assigned shift in order to move, stack, store and handle inventory. Must be able to stand, stoop and bend for extended periods throughout the assigned shift.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  1. Ensure deli areas operate within all food safety, franchise and company standards. Supervise the deli area in the assigned store, training, scheduling and providing work direction to deli staff. Ensure supplies are available each day based on operating records and procedures. Ensure deli areas are maintained appropriately and serve-safe standards are maintained. Ensure deli area is prepared for planned or unplanned inspections and maintain a good working relationship with external inspectors.
  2. Maintain deli inventory and records, including ordering inventory from approved vendors and checking in new inventory for specified quality and quantity. Ensure vendor data and prices are accurately recorded in inventory tracking systems. Cost check invoices compared to retail data, and identify and resolve any discrepancies. Update cost sheets as necessary.
  3. Maintain records of spoilage, write-offs and other operational data, and review monthly operational reports to monitor costs for each SKU.
  4. Accurately receive and prepare orders for deli foods. Follow serve-safe and portion control standards at all times. Serve customers in a courteous and pleasant manner.
  5. Complete assigned training within specified training periods, and maintain serve-safe certification.
  6. Clean deli areas, including food preparation and storage areas, cooking equipment, floors, refrigerators, freezers, meat cases and other necessary equipment.
  7. Assist in other store operations as needed and as trained. Accurately receive and process cash and credit card transactions and assist in maintaining store areas.
