As Aaron's Bankruptcy Paralegal, you will be responsible for processing and case management of customer accounts after customer has filed for bankruptcy protection, including taking action to maximize the company's recovery, addressing inquiries from field associates, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures and the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Candidates must be willing to work as part of a team, have strong communication skills, and be detail-oriented.
Job Duties
Manage detailed case file on Aaron's customers who have filed for bankruptcy protection, including routine monitoring and updating for status, calendaring key dates such as 341 hearings and deadlines for filing claims, and determination of Aaron's interest in the proceeding.
Develop action plan for each case to protect company's interest by maximizing recovery of cash and inventory returns and to provide guidance to field associates through the bankruptcy process.
Notify store of date of 341 hearing (meeting of creditors) and prepare designated field associate for attendance.
Review any amended plans and confirmation orders in Chapter 13 cases for possible objections and any additional action that may be needed.
Answer inquiries from field associates as to status of case and the bankruptcy process in general.
Prepare and file claims and prepare reaffirmation agreements when necessary.
Generate letters and other documents in conjunction with maximizing recovery of cash and inventory in conjunction with the Legal Department.
Assist Director of Renewal Retention, the Legal Department, and other Aaron's management with various tasks and other essential duties as assigned by management.
Develop and maintain a good working relationship and a high level of trust with associates in the Legal Department and field associates.
Position Requirements
Degree from an accredited college or university;
Paralegal certificate or equivalent documentation;
Minimum 4 years relevant work experience as bankruptcy paralegal with a law firm or in-house;
Must possess basic understanding of fundamentals of Chapters 7 and 13 bankruptcy processes;
Must be knowledgeable of bankruptcy law and proceedings;
Must be proactive;
Must be proficient with numbers and basic accounting;
Ability to communicate to the field is essential;
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills;
Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
Strong attention to detail is essential;
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be able to multi-task, and be able to prioritize workload effectively
