TITLE: Community Support Staff/Direct Care Part-Time

Through effective programming, and adequate support services, Allies staff assist people with special needs live richer lives. Allies provides great care and opportunities to the individuals through recreational, educational, vocational and cultural programs that add depth to their lives. Allies services are entirely customizable to meet the unique needs, hopes, dreams and desires of the people being served. Currently Allies is hiring potential candidates for Community Support Staff/Direct Care who will assist individuals with developmental disabilities in daily chores, medical appointments, financial management, self-advocacy, social & recreational activities and various aspects of life to live to the fullest and be a part of their communities.

Community Support Staff/Direct Care Requirements:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Basic Computer Literacy
  • Valid NJ driver's license with a good driving record
  • Ability to lift and transfer at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to read and write English
  • At least 18 years of age or older

Community Support Staff/Direct Care Required Skills:

•The ability to safely and effectively execute all Personal Control and Defensive Techniques

•The ability to exercise good judgment and use common sense.

•The ability to remain calm in crisis situations.

•The ability to interact with a wide range of people with respect.

•The ability to approach daily work from a person-centered vantage point.

Community Support Staff/Direct Care Responsibilities:

  • Works a flexible 40 hour week
  • Provides assistance with daily living skills when appropriate with respect and dignity.
  • Administers medication and completes documentation of same following procedures outlined in the operations manual.
  • Completes training and documentation with individuals to achieve Individual Habilitation Plan (IHP) goals.
  • Accurately completes all in-house documentation.
  • Successfully completes required residential training including: CPR and First Aid; Medication Administration; Preventing Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation; Shifting Expectations, Life Experience and Services; In House Orientation; Crisis Management; New Hire Orientation; and Life Threatening Emergencies (Danielle’s Law) and CorporatemCompliance.
  • Accompanies individuals to and from appointments and activities.
  • Builds a support network between the individuals and community members.
  • Encourages and ensures that individuals maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment providing assistance as appropriate.
  • Participates in Circle(s) of Support for personal futures planning.
  • Works with each Individual’s Treatment Team (IDT) and all other interested parties to build self-esteem and social capitol for each individual served.
  • Operates all types of agency vehicles, in any condition, at any point during shift.
  • Attends conferences, seminars and training relevant to the specific needs of the individuals served.
  • Completes all duties as assigned by the Support Manager.
