Seeking a mechanical engineer to plan and design systems for a firm that specializes in hospitality, commercial office building, retail/ restaurant, industrial, healthcare, and multi-family construction projects. This job will entail working directly with clients, attending client meetings, mentoring junior staff and ensuring the quality of mechanical documentation. Design duties include planning and developing design criteria and equipment selection in preliminary design process for preparation of construction documents. This position coordinates information and design components across a multi-disciplinary team to ensure deliverables are compliant with client expectations.

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Translating assignments with clear and specified objectives into efficient HVAC designs; including ductwork, piping and equipment sizing and selection
  • Developing specifications, working drawings, instructions, and other related documents of complex multi-family/mixed use construction and hotel projects
  • Performing design calculations and equipment selection and layout of HVAC equipment such as heat, gas, hot water, chilled water, and central plant systems
  • Performing heating and cooling load calculations
  • Communicating daily with project architect, initiating face to face communication, regarding design constructability as related to field conditions, sequencing, and scheduling of construction activities, evaluating the need for design changes and making appropriate recommendations
  • Performing construction administration including working with architect to review plans to ensure compliance

Successful candidates are self-starters, resourceful and able to function in a high performing, collaborative team environment. Someone who has leadership abilities and excellent communication skills would be a good fit for this role.

Requirements for this role include:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Engineering preferred
  • EIT or PE preferred
  • 1-15 years experience in HVAC design for multi-family/mixed use construction and hotel projects
  • Familiar with the AE design process and the specification development process leading to the development of construction documents
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • AutoCAD proficiency required, Revit experience preferred
  • Capable of coordinating design components within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience with building energy performance software, comcheck, rescheck and green building certification criteria, such as LEED
  • Experience with building codes in multiple states
