A local company is currently seeking a 2nd Shift Department Manager for their Shipping Department in Slidell, La.

In this position you will manage the associates on the Shipping/Outbound side of the Distribution Center.

The ideal candidate will be innovative, a problem solver, have solid leadership skills, as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills. You will instruct associates and work directly with them to train, motivate and encourage. In addition you must demonstrate the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks to integrate changing processes and procedures, to work effectively within a large organization and to manage time and resources effectively in a fast paced environment.

Job Description

• Examine shipment contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy.
• Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes.
• Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.
• Confer or correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications.
• Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools, or postage meter.

Job Requirements

• 2-3 years of shipping and or warehouse experience preferred but management experience in general will be considered for the right candidate.
• Leadership ability with a can do take charge attitude are imperative.
• Ability to work alone and make decisions.
• Must be willing to work nights and Saturdays.
• Proficient computer skills.
• Solid customer service skills and ability to diffuse difficult situations.
