Responsibilities:

Safety/Risk Management:

a. Demonstrates aseptic technique.

b. Follows hazardous waste procedures.

c. Follows confidentiality policies/procedures.

d. Checks assigned areas for outdated medications.

e. Maintains safety and sanitation of equipment.

f. Makes correct calculations for oral, IV, and topical dosage forms and documents all

steps appropriately.

Coordination of Services:

a. Coordinates work-flow by communicating to appropriate personnel in a timely

manner.

b. Assists in other areas when coverage is needed.

c. Uses sound judgment to determine priority based on patients needs.

d. Takes action to ensure appropriate inventory is on hand when and where needed.

e. Takes active role with training of new co-workers.

f. Follows departmental policies and procedures.

Primary Aspects:

a. Accurately fills orders for any and all medication in a timely manner.

b. Accurately enters orders in a correct manner into appropriate data system.

c. Utilizes knowledge of medications, patient needs, and expense to determine priority

of entry. Adjusts entry speed according to workload.

d. Aseptically compounds sterile products in a manner consistent with stability.

e. Makes timely deliveries of medication to nursing areas.

f. Maintains files of workload records and other clerical duties, temperature checks,

and other QA as appropriate.

g. Suggests new ideas to improve workplace & better Utilize staff resources as

appropriate.

h. Prepacks/processes credits/stocks.

Communication Management:

a. Uses effective communication when interacting with co-workers and other

departments.

b. Properly communicates appropriate information between shifts.

c. Answers telephone calls appropriately.

d. Attends departmental meetings.

Technology:

a. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and use of all equipment IV compounding

equipment, robotic dispensing equipment, packaging equipment, and automated dispensing cabinets as appropriate.

Complex Aspects:

a. Takes responsibility for special duties and effectively performs these tasks,

including supervisory duties

If required by that specialty area.

b. Effectively trains other technicians to function in specialty including in-services in

area if applicable

c. Fills out/reports any paperwork/QA required for that specialty area.

d. Develops outline for training new co-worker in area of specialty, and fills in outline

when trainee is taught.

e. Communicates with management on ways to improve specialty area, and is active

with management to

create policy changes if needed.

Qualifications:

Licensure: Requires valid Pharmacy Technician License to be registered with Missouri State Board of Pharmacy and in good standing.

Experience: Must have at least one year of pharmacy technician experience in our health-care system or have at least five (5) years of pharmacy technician experience in a hospital or retail setting. Must also have passed all written and practical exams in accordance with achievement program.

Certification/Registration: Requires being registered by the National Pharmacy Technician.

Association as a Certified Pharmacy Technician and keeping this certification current.

Other skills & knowledge:

Must be able to handle all aspects of Specialty Area chosen and must be able to set up and teach in-house training in Specialty area when applicable. Must be an active, integral part of chosen specialty area that communicates with management any suggestions/innovations that may help improve processes or functionality of that specialty area and be a supporting integral part of implementing any such ideas/suggestions that

management decides to implement. Must have any changes/suggestions reviewed and approved by management before implementation. Must have all medications and preparations checked by a registered pharmacist before it is dispensed.
