POSITION PURPOSE

Are you ready to take on a critical role within a world-class IT Development shop of a Fortune 50 company?  Year over year we continue to deliver more through our LLC pipeline and into production; and the pace of delivery continues to increase.  This is an integral role where you define the paths to production and ensure all the features with many cross company large scale matrix projects make their way into production in a coordinated, controlled, repeatable manner.  In this role, you will be challenged by working with internal business partners and multiple other stakeholders to manage the roadmap, aggregate cross-team scope and ensure that as code migrates through the LLC, it is done so it goes into production flawlessly.  Using your experience, you will look for opportunities to streamline the processes through simplification and/or tooling ensuring that as we go from release to release the quality continues to improve.


MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
1) Evaluates current processes and procedures and continuously develops and implements improved practices.
2) Design, write and deliver software to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Home Depot's services.
3) Solve problems relating to mission critical services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence; with the goal of automating response to all non-exceptional service conditions.
4) Influence and create new designs, architectures, standards and methods for large-scale distributed systems.
5) Engage in service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis and system tuning.
6) Responsible for proper escalation, communications, management, and root cause analysis for LLC infrastructure issues

Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology
Responsible for helping others and providing on-the-job training or guidance

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Additional Minimum Qualifications:

1) Experience in one or more of: C, C++, Java, Perl, Python, Go, or scripting experience in Shell and Perl.
2) Experience working with Unix/Linux systems from kernel to shell and beyond, with experience working with system libraries, file systems, and client-server protocols.
3) Proven ability to evaluate current processes and procedures and continuously develop and implement improved practices
4) Basic Networking: experience with network theory e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, etc., MAC addresses, IP packets, DNS, OSI layers, and load balancing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1) BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 
2) Expertise in designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
3) In-depth knowledge of operating systems (processes, threads, concurrency issues, locks, mutexes, semaphores, monitors and how they work).
4) Familiarity with algorithms, data structures and complexity analysis.
5) Systematic problem solving approach, coupled with a strong sense of ownership and drive.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 5 years

Physical Requirements:
Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).
