Position Purpose:
Provides technical support and guidance to internal and external customers on issues relating to environmental compliance with Company standards and procedures.  Assists in the day-to-day management of Company’s Handling Hazardous Materials (HHM) program that includes fielding and responding to requests from Stores / Distribution Centers and working with Hazardous Waste hauler(s) on reporting and projects relating to Hazardous Waste Management.  Manages end-to-end review and resolution process for various regulatory inspections of Company facilities (includes Stores, Supply Chain, Dot.Com, YOW, MRO, Home Decorators Collection and At Home Services businesses).  Assists in development of Environmental / Regulatory programs as needed. Initiates, supports, and defines Company environmental programs to meet regulatory needs and establish sustainable operational practices. Utilizes data and creates reports to identify waste trends. Coordinates with Government Relations, Legal, external consultants, and retail associations to understand upcoming legislation, trends, process gaps, and eliminate exposure.  Regularly provides data to senior Asset Protection leadership team relating to regulatory activity and overall compliance performance. Follows through with the implementation and transfer of solutions by leveraging various internal and external cross-functional groups.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:

30% Supports the day-to-day operation of Company’s Handling Hazardous Material program. Provides response to field requests/inquires, interfacing with waste vendor(s), and driving overall store environmental compliance through the HHM program.

10% Responds to, and provides written resolution to, all regulatory, customer, and associate complaints / inquiries relating to environmental issues. Directly interfaces with regulators on outstanding issues. Coordinates written responses to all regulatory agencies regarding environmental inspections and ensures abatement of all issues. Manages data input and reporting processes relating to inspection /violation activity.

20% Partners with other sources when necessary to bring resolution to complex compliance issues. Such partnership would include Legal, Building Services, Government Relations, Construction, HR, field teams, and external consultants.

10% Works with environmental vendors to ensure proper execution of Company program standards. Such review should include establishment and monitoring of Key Performance Metrics.

10% Monitors, tracks, and evaluates regulatory data to ensure that key trends are identified. Works with development team to outline process gaps and provide suggestions on program development to eliminate regulatory exposure.

20% Manages several of the Company's sustainability efforts and customer-facing recycling programs. Interfaces with recycling vendors and continually partners with internal groups to expand Company's sustainability programs.

Nature and Scope:

  • This position reports to the Manager – Environmental Operations
  • This position has no direct reports.
  • Travel Required < 10%

Environmental Job Requirements:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must pass the Drug Test.

Must pass pre-employment test if applicable.

Education Required:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Physical Job Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of RCRA and regulatory statute review.
  • Experience in managing regulatory claim activity and resolution process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Environmental Science/Engineering or other related field
  • 3-5 years of Environmental or Safety experience
  • General knowledge of Environmental and Safety regulatory statute review experience
  • Retail operations experience
