DISH’s Equipment Remanufacturing team ensures the high quality condition of millions of satellite receivers and remote controls.  State-of-the-art facilities in El Paso, TX, Spartanburg, SC, and Englewood, CO, use advanced diagnostic tools and automated equipment to test, refurbish and redistribute hardware to customers.

 

The Engineering Supervisor coordinates the daily activities of Engineering Technicians to supporting all areas of the El Paso Manufacturing Service Center. This supervisor is an entry level management position responsible for reporting, performance appraisals, identify and lead improvement opportunities, special projects, recommend design changes; interact with other areas such as Quality, Production, and Warehousing.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise the daily activities of an Engineering Technician crew/shift (5-12 employees).

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Position requires previous supervisory or leadership experience, advanced electrical troubleshooting and machine shop skills.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Four year degree from college or technical school preferred
• 2-3 years of previous manufacturing supervisory experience

 

SKILLS

  • Strong electrical and electronic troubleshooting experience is required
  • Experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role is required
  • Extensive experience on a manufacturing/refurbishing and a machine shop environment is preferred
  • Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish is highly desired
  • Need to be able to work alone and in groups
  • Ability to write work instructions, procedures, training documentation and activity reports
  • Good communication and mentoring skills, detail oriented with good organizational skills
  • Must know how to use a computer (Windows environment).
    • Knowledge of MS Office software, AutoCAD and maintenance management software (SAP-Maintenance, Mpulse) is a plus.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts.  Ability to apply concepts of basic math especially on machine shop math and electrical concepts.

 

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems that involve several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to work under pressure

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk around considerably, kneel down, crawl in confined spaces, use ladders and not be afraid of heights.  He/she must help move benches and racks, pull cables, lift fixtures, computers, smart boxes, monitors, etc alone or in a team. 

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

This supervisor would be assigned to 2nd shift (Monday-Thursday, 4pm-2am) but a flexible schedule would be occasionally required for the supervisor to attend training, meetings, cover absences during weekdays.

The technician will respond to calls in the production floor, and all other areas where a production needs assistance; from time to time the technician will assist production at the start of the shift or on weekends during ramp up phases or layout/process changes.

 

 

  • First responsible for the performance of a group of Engineering Technicians, providing feedback on performance and productivity on a daily basis, during meetings or as needed
  • Plan, assign and direct work; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolving problems; nurture a teamwork mindset among all direct reports; develop and mentor team members on technical and work-related aspects
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering team on creating training documentation, Sequence Of Events (SOE), Engineering changes, Design changes, Safety guidelines and other documentation
  • Identify training needs among team members, following up on the improvement of each member of his shift/team
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and electronic issues to ensure test and manufacturing equipment is operating according to requirements and specifications. Some of the equipment includes manual test stations, high potency testers, scanners, automated test stations, among others
  • Be able to interact with a proactive attitude and customer mindset when working with production associates, supervisors and coworkers from other areas or departments (Quality, Production, Facilities, etc)
  • Be able to work on specific items with little to no supervision as well as being part of a crew or team
  • Experience working with a Maintenance management system such as SAP-Maintenance or Mpulse is desired
  • Familiarity with 5S, TPM and other Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Physical ability to lift and move production equipment such as benches, racks, carts, cabling and computers
  • Bilingual English-Spanish is highly desired
