Director of Design - Full-time

Job Description

Position Summary:

The Director of Design will lead, develop, and manage operationalizing programs and process improvement initiatives that ensure the optimization of the company’s commitment to “free” consultative design services. Leading efforts that ensure Floor & Decor stores deliver an inspirational design experience while driving sales and improved service will be a pivotal part of the role. Additionally, the Director of Design will be responsible for developing the strategy for establishing and evolving standards for Floor & Decor Design Services that provide a framework for process excellence and execution within our stores.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and direct the creation of design services’ processes and tools to enable Floor & Decor stores to deliver a consistent, “best in class” consultative design experience, driving improved customer service
• Increase sales by driving higher performance through our design services program (increase average ticket, increase conversion, drive customer satisfaction)
• Define, develop and execute consistent tools to enable designers to help customers
• Develop, manage and maintain design service standards that allow for the identification of key performance indicators enabling measurement of the customer’s design experience
• Lead designer scheduling standards, at the appropriate level of detail, that allow for the creation of scheduling workload requirements by day and time of day that account for the varied sales volumes of the company’s stores while meeting our customer’s expectations
• Support and enhance the company's position as an employer of choice for in-store designers
• Lead the identification, development, and implementation of design-focused process improvement initiatives across multiple geographies and consumer trends
• Manage multiple, concurrent, large scale projects related to design services and planning with cross-functional impact and large-scale cost and earnings impact
• Support store operations by leading the identification of design opportunities related to proposed process, system, and initiative changes
• Direct business leadership in the strategic planning of design service requirements and meeting organizational goals related to design services
• Work collaboratively with PRO, Learning and Field Management to communicate and train design associates regarding process improvement and work standards
• Serve as a key subject matter expert for topics, discussions, and projects related to design services

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Job Requirements:

• Proven builder, leader
• Must possess leadership and communication abilities to drive ideas across the company
• Clear and concise communicator accomplished at building consensus without direct authority
• Ability to develop analytical modeling and develop/analyze business cases
• Four-year college degree or equivalent
• A background in Interior Design or similar experience is preferred
• 5 or more years in progressively responsible management roles within retailing or consulting
• Ability to design, develop, implement and improve integrated systems that include people, materials, information, equipment and cost.
• Expertise in the development of design service standards and the use of tools for managing these standards.
• Demonstrated retail sales experience with an emphasis on influential leadership and improving productivity, service, and quality in an operational environment.
• Proven ability to lead a large group on diverse projects.
• Proven management of multiple, concurrent, organization wide projects with significant earnings impact.
• Exceptional presentation skills.
• Analytical skills and detail orientation are a must.
• Ability to manage and meet project deadlines.
• Ability to work collaboratively.
• Ability to travel extensively as needed, including overnight
