Summary of Duties

In collaboration with department directors, the Manager Nursing Unit plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates nursing service in designated patient care areas in accordance with applicable state and federal guidelines, regulations and standards. Directed by department director, assures the quality of patient care for specific patient groups. Responsible and accountable for unit systems functions, staff performance, and patient care outcomes.  Assists department director in accomplishing unit and organizational goals.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

Current California nursing licensure, as appropriate

B.S.N., Masters degree preferred

Current BLS card

Minimum of two years working experience in a related role within a health care setting

Three years management experience demonstrating increasing responsibility including assisting with preparing unit budgets preferred

Demonstrates advanced level problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities

Prior proven experience and expertise in clinical area relevant to unit patient population (minimum 2 years clinical work) and/or prior proven experience and expertise in management, either in first line or in shift supervisory work

Emotional stability to deal with crises, continuous interruptions, high prolonged stress of management staff, patient care and physical environment, counseling/coaching staff, providing disciplinary action, positively interacting with medical staff and support services during times of stress and constant change

Excellent verbal and written skills for high level communication within the hospital and at interdisciplinary and administrative meetings and meeting high demands for developing written proposals, preparing budgets, writing evaluations and developing standards and Performance Improvement (PI) reports
