ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Supervises and coordinates staff Therapists, Therapist Assistants and Rehab Techs.
- Coordinates with therapy contractors, other department heads and participates in facility meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates the overall operations of the rehab department to meet resident needs, the budget and federal and state regulations.
- Coordinates the assignment of residents and other responsibilities to staff therapists and therapy contractors in an appropriate manner.
- Screens, evaluates and treats residents. Assures that residents admitted for treatment receive required therapy services and service delivery is documented appropriately.
- Orients, trains and counsels rehab department employees to achieve and maintain a high standard of care.
- Involved in the hiring and terminating of department employees according to company protocol jointly with the Regional Director of Rehab and Human Resources as indicated.
- Assures compliance with appropriate policies and procedures for the department and facility.
- Develops and maintains a medical records system that:
- Is accurate and concise.
- Meets governmental and third party payer requirements.
- Reflects a clear picture of the resident’s problems, the therapist’s intervention and the resident’s outcome.
- Develops and maintains administrative record system that provides an accurate record of the number of treatments given and labor incurred.
- Communicates and coordinates the rehab departments in a constructive manner that helps build team rapport and effectiveness.
- Communicates with Administrator and Regional Director of Rehab/Reimbursement regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems and successes.
- Communicates with the physicians regarding resident problems, progress and department programs.
- Develops department revenue and control expenditure of funds to meet budgetary requirements.
- Sets goals and objectives for the department and implements activities to accomplish them.
- Supervises therapy student programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices): Mobility (includes walking, good balance), reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, ability to see and hear, ability to read and write, ability to communicate with residents, family members, personnel, and ability to remain calm under stress.
1. Graduate from an accredited program for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Language Pathology with a Certificate of Clinical Competency.
2. Current licensure as a therapist in the state of practice.
3. Management and/or supervisory skills.
4. Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to relate professionally and positively to residents, resident’s family members, and facility staff.
