Overview:

Aerojet Rocketdyne is currently seeking a Crane Maintenance Engineer to join our team in Sacramento, CA.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for planning, design and coordinating maintenance projects related to cranes, hoists and hoisting equipment. This includes developing timelines for projects that have the highest priority to the maintenance department and the plant operations to help maximize the availability of the plant equipment for reliable operations.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):

This position monitors work operations on a daily basis and actively assists or provides direction to skilled crane mechanics in an effort to enable continuous plant operations.

 

70% - Provides technical guidance to skilled trades and craft personnel performing work in the installation and maintenance of cranes, hoists and hoisting equipment which is to be accomplished in accordance with Maintenance Procedures. Repairs, overhauls and modifies cranes and hoists. Services, inspects, tests and documents results for compliance on cranes and hoists pursuant to regulatory requirements. Works from prints, wiring diagrams, schematics and manufacturing specifications on cranes and hoists. Performs rigging, weight handling and lifting in performance of duties.

  • Ensures maintenance practices meet the minimum requirements of the California General Industrial Safety Orders and design specifications substantially comply with the requirements of ANSI Standards B30.2.0, .4, .5, .6 and .15 as applicable to local installations.
  • Ensures compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of group guidelines, performing training, monitoring compliance, etc.
  • Plans, coordinates, and schedules work required, supervision of contractors, ordering materials to ensure efficiency and success.
  • Provides problem solving and root cause analysis, equipment modification design, preparation of contract documents, and scopes of work.
  • Provides ongoing maintenance support to the plant for all shifts.
  • Performs engineering design and review functions in conjunction with other personnel this may include design, performance verification, evaluating proposals, improvement project studies and justification.
  • Assists purchasing in BOM maintenance, updating reorder points and minimizing unnecessary/aged spare parts inventory.

30% - Inspect work sites to ensure Safety is maintained during all stages of maintenance.

Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and at least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in a directly related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

 

Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency, or other status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information. Having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

 

Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct and control the activities of the assigned organization.
  • Certified Crane Surveyor with overhead and mobile crane experience a must.
  • Must customarily have a high consciousness for personnel and equipment safety.
  • 6+ years of experience as a supervisor in a maintenance trade preferred.
  • Leadership experience in a union environment a plus.

 

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work in a shop environment, around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, chemical materials, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
