The Distributed Application Performance Tuner role is part of an organization with a mission to ensure operational stability and efficiency of UnitedHealth Group’s critical business applications. Specifically, this role will be part of a team of specialists that are tasked with identifying changes that will make these critical business applications execute as efficiently as possible in order to improve the user experience, reduce cycle time and maximize the use of technology assets. This work is most often done as a planned activity but also includes some Incident and Problem support. 
 
Primary Responsibilities:

Utilize knowledge of distributed application and system operating concepts, as well as knowledge of performance tuning and capacity planning, to effectively manage system resources
Using quantitative methods, statistical data and historical performance data, a person in this role will provide recommendations and changes to positively impact system capacity/performance
Seen as a company thought leader that takes a broad business approach, serves as a resource to senior leadership and develops pioneering approaches to emerging industry trends
May be called on to support any of the critical business applications making success dependent on the ability to collaborate with application teams, infrastructure teams and end users who are often are geographically disbursed across multiple time zones
Involved in work to further mature the Application Performance Management (APM) processes within the distributed environments

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

7+ years of development experience working with distributed applications across UNIX, UNIX - like and Microsoft Windows platforms
Demonstrated technical expertise with at least one of the following DBMS (practical experience with more than one is preferred) : Oracle 11g or higher, SQL Server 2012 or higher, DB2 LUW 9.7 or higher, MySQL
Experience tuning applications within J2EE and / or .NET
Proficiency in identifying, understanding and improving application performance issues based on changes to foundational components such as OS, server configuration, VMWare, network, Citrix, MQ / middleware, etc.
Experience with Dynatrace or other similar monitoring tools
Preferred Qualifications:

Previous APM experience
Experience in Big Data using Hadoop, Elastic Search or MarkLogic
Experience with NoSQL and Data Warehouse and Cloud or Mobile computing 
Experience with Agile development framework
