About this job

Provide leadership for the maintenance crew in all aspects of the maintenance mechanic responsibilities such as but not limited to schedule of work orders to mechanics, follow-up and feedback to maintenance supervisor on progress of work orders, machine setup, troubleshooting, repairs and preventive maintenance service.

LEADERSHIP

Directs a staff of maintenance mechanics, groundskeepers, and/or security officers in the fulfillment of project assignments within budget, with quality and on schedule

Must possess leadership ability and team building skills to effectively supervise professional and non-professional staff and interact with all levels of management. Good human relation skills, strong verbal and written communication skills required. Well-developed problem solving skills and ability to develop conceptual alternatives. Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing maintenance practices. Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the maintenance department

Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.

Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.

Minimize non-productive time and fill slow periods with activities that will enable you to prepare to meet the future needs of the Department (education, organizing, assisting others).

Organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frames.

Consistently demonstrate ability to take the initiative to make decisions/choices without direct supervision.

Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance

Prepares and sets up machinery for scheduled production runs.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Attend required annual in-service programs.

Participate in continuing education activities and obtain required contact hours.

Performs mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of packaging and production machines.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

The individual observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.  Must be able to handle confidential information professionally and ethically

Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service

Comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules.

Perform other duties as assigned or needed

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.  
  • Technical training; exposure to high-speed equipment
  • 2+ years of related experience in packing machines/production machines

PHSICAL DEMANDS:

  • To be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • To be able to reach, bend, kneel and squat
  • To be able to walk and stand on a repetitive and constant basis.
  • To be able to use step stools.
  • To be able to hear call system, pager signals and spoken English language.
  • To be able to wear protective gloves supplied by the facility.
  • To be able to be in contact with domestic pets.
