The Surgery Pre-Certification Admissions Clerk is responsible for registering all inpatient, outpatients, emergency and surgical patients for services. Duties include interviewing patients for demographic and insurance information and inputting this information into the patient account system; collecting co-pays and deductibles; answering phones and directing patients; verifying insurance pre-certification requirements. The Surgery Pre-Certification Admissions Clerk is the initial contact most patients have with the hospital. The Surgery Pre-Certification Admission Clerk's role is to create a sense of caring and a congenial atmosphere for the patients.
* High School graduate or GED (Preferred)
* Accurate typing skills and basic experience with computers.
* Ability to communicate and comprehend accurately and effectively in written and spoken English
* Ability to perform math calculations accurately: percentage rates, discounts, payments, etc.
* Must possess high quality, positive interpersonal skills.
* Able to work with a moderate level of noise and interruptions.
* Ability to discuss financial matters in detail over the phone and spending long periods of time on the telephone, speaking to people.
