The Clinical Nurse Practitioner Advisor is responsible for on boarding all new clinical staff, and the continuous education and training of existing clinical employees. The CNA  reports to the Health Services Director and is supported by the Sr. Clinical Services Manager and Health Services Director. 
 
The CNA works closely with the Clinical Service Managers (CSM) in the field to ensure the successful integration of all new clinical staff, and to maintain and enhance the skill set of all staff. The CNA also works with the Medical Directors to identify clinical educational opportunities. 
 
Service area is Eastern Cleveland, Ohio
  
Primary Responsibilities: 
  
Responsible for the core orientation of all new clinical employees, and initial training providing a base knowledge to apply in the field 
  • Provides education on Optum and its history, and the model of care
  • Describes and demonstrates the interdependence of all teams including Clinical, Sales, and Network and Operations
  • Coordinates all interdisciplinary and web based training sessions
  • Competent in training new staff with Electronic Medical Record
  • Works with Business Support Liaison (BSL) and IT for initial computer set up (applications, software, air card, etc).  Ensures new staff learns how to access “Help Desk”
  • Coordinates clinical orientation schedule with CSMs and CAs; provides feedback and evaluation towards success of new staff in the facility and with residents
  • Regular review and revision of orientation schedule and program.  Develops training program focused on new grads and clinicians without long term care experience
  • May work with clinicians in the field
Responsible for the ongoing education and training of clinical staff 
  • Works closely with the HSD, Sr. CSM and Medical Directors to identify clinical needs and objectives.  Develops educational presentations as needed
  • Provides ongoing training related to utilization metrics, RAF scores and HCC (documentation and coding), Evercare model, Advanced Care Planning and Benefit Determination
  • Teaches impact of clinical results on financial outcomes e.g. Benefit Determination, RAF scores and HCC, TAP categories, dividend and shared savings
  • Serves as resource for CSMs and CAs regarding clinical staff on a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) or in need of specific training
  • Assists clinicians in developing facility in - services
  • May provide educational presentations at meetings, All Staff, and other external forums
Responsible for other educational activities and programs 
  • Serves as liaison with NP schools
  • Works with UHG to insure that all clinical affiliation agreements are current and endorsed
  • Arranges NP placements with school contacts
  • Maintains updated documentation from NP students
  • Is a resource for NPs precepting students
  • Assists with coordinating “Job Shadowing” for NP hosts
  • Participates in quality initiatives; oversees “fit testing”
  • May contribute to individual clinician MAP

Required Qualifications: 
  • Certified nurse practitioner through ANCC / AANP as adult, family and / or geriatric (GNP preferred), Masters prepared with state licensure requirements
  • Current unrestricted license in state(s) in which practicing
  • Minimum of one year of nurse practitioner experience
  • Unrestricted DEA license
  • Proficient using ICD-10
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor clinicians.
  • Demonstrated exemplary performance as an NP / evidence of understanding the Optum philosophy of managed primary care model if applicable
  • Demonstrates advanced clinical nursing expertise in geriatric / chronic disease management
  • Excellent communication skills and able to build collaborative relationships
  • Functions independently, exercises good decision making skills
  • Able to travel as required up to 50% of time
  • Access to reliable transportation that will enable you to travel to client and/or patient sites within a designated area
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • 5+ years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in a long term care setting and / or experience as an Optum Nurse Practitioner
  • Experience working with EMR systems and PowerPoint
  • 2+ years of experience in an education role in a clinical setting
