Job Summary

The WM Recycle Corps collegiate intern program isdesigned for a diverse group of energetic, responsible and communicativecollege students interested in a hands-on job training experience in the fieldof recycling education and community outreach.

This fast-paced ten-week internship will teach 14 collegestudents the latest strategies in engaging the public and businesses in wastereduction and recycling behavior change. This position provides an opportunityto work with over 20 communities within the Puget Sound. We are seeking adiverse group of applicants, from all cultures and communities, to best connectwith the businesses and residents of this region.

WM Recycle Corps interns represent the company in variouspublic venues and on a variety of outreach projects. Interns will assist withdoor to door and phone based education campaigns for businesses and multifamilycommunities and staff educations booths at community festivals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Individual must be able to perform the followingessential duties. Other minor duties maybe assigned and may vary by location.

* Willing and able to learn the recycling and compostingbusiness and then share that knowledge with the public

* Work with businesses, property managers and the public,one-on-one, to provide information and resources that promote recycling,composting and waste reduction

* Educate the general public at community events byanswering questions about WM recycling and composting programs and services

* Work efficiently while maintaining attention to detail

* Able to adapt to changing situations while remainingpositive

* Demonstrated communication, customer service andteamwork skills

* Work effectively in a diverse, collaborative teamenvironment, while promoting inclusion and cultural responsiveness

* Demonstrated commitment to racial equity, withexperience in racially diverse settings or working with diverse communities

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of thequalifications necessary to perform the job.

* Must be eligible to work in the U.S. on a full-time,permanent basis

* Must be available to participate in the internship fromstart to finish: 6/19 - 8/25/2017

* Must be enrolled as a college student in the fall of2017

* Must have a cell phone available for emergency use

* Must possess an insured and reliable vehicle, and beable to travel to and from Kirkland and locations throughout King, Snohomish,and Skagit counties

* Fluency in Spanish, Chinese or Korean is preferred

* Able to transport outreach materials and equipment(tables, storage totes, chairs, tent, etc.)

* Able to effectively communicate with WM staff andcustomers in person and on the phone

* Able to work independently with assigned team members

* Capable of lifting 30 pounds

Work Environment

Listed below are key points regarding environmentaldemands and work environment of the job.

* Required to exert physical effort in handling objects upto 30 pounds

* Required to be exposed to physical environment whichinvolves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements

* Normal setting for this job is outdoors, eithervisiting customers at a business or residence, or at a community event such asa farmers market, city festival or holiday celebration

Program Overview

* This is a paid internship, full-time (40 hours/week),with opportunities for overtime

* Internship hours rotate between Monday-Friday (1stweek), Tuesday -- Saturday and Wednesday -- Sunday schedules

* Eligible candidates MUST be able to start Monday, June19, 2017 and work all 10 weeks. Some shifts start at 8:00 am, and others willstart in the afternoon. On occasion, shifts will begin at 5 a.m., and othershifts will end at 11 p.m.

* The program's focus is split between outreach campaigns(70%) and staffing the WM recycling booth at community events (30%)

* WM Recycle Corps Headquarters is located in Kirkland,WA

* Recycle Corps interns will be provided with WM poloshirts, name tags and safety vests to wear as part of the required dress code
