Senior Branch Manager

Basic Function

Serve as a proactive team leader in the M&T Branch system, committed to sales and service. Responsible for directing sales and business development, meeting operational objectives and ensuring the branch achieves its annual goals. Management duties include staff development and supervisory responsibility for branch staff. Achieve personal sales goals, assist branch customers and manage a portfolio of business clients. Adhere to the requirements of federal registration under the SAFE Act. Build the bank's presence in the community and for prospecting and enhancing business relationships. The Senior Branch Manager position is a management level position that can lead to a career in further bank management.

Essential Position Responsibilities

Responsible for branch achieving its annual sales and customer retention goals. Duties include coaching sales staff, developing direct marketing plans for the branch, tracking and celebrating sales success and conducting weekly sales meetings with all branch staff.

Build effective relationships with business partners, working closely on customer acquisition strategies and retention efforts and developing new marketing campaigns.

Manage a book of clients, with emphasis on cross selling and deepening customers' relationship with the bank. Management will focus on building and retaining relationships through specific customer contact and sales goals.

Develop existing business client relationships and prospect within the community for new commercial business.

Ensure customer service in the branch is conducted according to the bank's service excellence standards.

Build and develop the branch management staff by recruiting, hiring, mentoring and, using the performance management system, coaching staff to exceed their annual objectives.

Direct staffing and administrative functions including, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, and terminations.

Limit branch risk to preventable losses by ensuring that all branch staff are vigilantly aware of suspicious activity and that they are current on operational changes. Provide guidance and training to branch personnel on operating problems and handling of exceptions. Make sure branch adheres to operational policies, compliance requirements and security measures. Focus on protecting the bank and its employees.

Represent the Bank at various community functions to further enhance its image and develop additional business.

Other tasks as assigned by management.

Nature and Scope

A Senior Branch Manager is a position usually available within a medium to large branch office (Tier 3-5). The Senior Branch Manager spends a percentage of time managing office and staff, ensuring the branch achieves its sales and expense goals. Senior Branch Manager will be responsible for branch retail sales goals with an emphasis on building and prospecting business/commercial relationships

Senior Branch Managers are responsible for establishing and maintaining federal registration requirements outlined in the SAFE Act.

Senior Branch Managers are responsible for ensuring operational efficiency of the branch office through adherence to established procedures and are responsible for keeping branch losses at a minimum.

Supervisory Responsibility

Senior Branch Managers have direct or indirect reporting responsibility for ten or more individuals in the branch.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or, in lieu of degree, four (4) years' relevant experience.

Minimum four years sales experience

Minimum three years' managerial experience or proven leadership abilities.

At Market Manager discretion/branch need, pertinent state Life/Accident and Health Insurance licensing required within 12 months of entry into position. Note: branch provides training for licensing within 6 months.

M&T Business Banking Specialist within 18 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated strong knowledge of Commercial and Business Banking products, services and client relationship management.

Technical Skills

Work with common PC software, including knowledge of Microsoft Office software for word processing and spreadsheets.

Experience with Internet and email preferred.

Other Job Information

Proven ability to demonstrate and coach exceptional customer service.

Strong financial services product knowledge preferred.
