Florida Hospital for Children seeks to hire a Clinical Coordinator -Epilepsy Surgery --Registered Nurse who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

We’re also Central Florida’s only pediatric provider for bone marrow transplant, kidney transplant, Gamma Knife services, trilogy radiation and Level III epilepsy care. Job Summary
 
The Nurse Clinical Coordinator participates in and coordinates patient care and education for the epilepsy surgery program.  Assists in coordination of research participation by epilepsy patients when appropriate.  Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
 
Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience Required
 
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Capable of relating to diverse age and social backgrounds.
  • Professional knowledge and clinical ability sufficient to provide excellent patient care and family support activities.
  • Independent work initiative, sound judgment, diplomacy, and a professional demeanor.
  • Sound knowledge of procedures and regulations specific to the assessment and care patients as applicable to specific areas of practice.
  • 1-2 years RN experience, preferably in a subspecialty (preferred)
 
Licensure, Certification or Registration Required
 
  • Current, valid State of Florida license as a registered professional nurse (RN)
 
Job Responsibilities

1. Participate in the delivery of health care to the epilepsy population.
a. Coordinate schedules and activities of the Epilepsy Surgery Clinic.
b. Coordinate weekly multi-disciplinary Epilepsy Surgery Clinic.
c. Attend multi-disciplinary epilepsy meetings (radiology, in-patient rounds, case review meetings, etc.) to communicate nursing concerns and goals.
d. Communicate clearly and effectively with direct care nurses and nurse managers to explain specific care unique to epilepsy surgical patients.
e. Act as a liaison with patients’ school personnel as needed to optimize educational plans for epilepsy surgery patients, if applicable.
f. Maintains contact by phone and/or in person with patients and families to facilitate self care behaviors.
g. In cooperation with FH Social Worker assesses/applies for Medicaid and CMS when indicated.
 
2. Participate in surgical procedures to act as liaison between operating team and family.
a.   Function as coordinator for epilepsy surgery procedures performed by the Epilepsy Surgery team.
    1. Participate in research endeavors in accordance with FH research team directions and protocols.
       a. Provide input for patient care protocol development.
                 b. Coordinate patient selection process.
       c. Participate in recruitment of research volunteers as directed.
       d. Assist with data collection as directed.
 
3. Participate in education of self, patients, families, health care professionals, and the community.
a. Plan, develop and implement educational programs for patients, parents (if applicable), and families involved in the Epilepsy Surgery Clinic.
b. Maintain current knowledge of scientific investigations in area of epilepsy surgery via independent study, conferences, communication with the research team, and seminars.
c. Pursue professional growth through current literature, workshop attendance, hosting workshops/conferences, and formal education.
d. Participate in educational programs for FH staff, community health care providers, community nursing students, and community lay population as need arises.
 
4.    Comply with policies and procedures protecting patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by FH mission and applicable laws and regulations.  Review timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information.
 
5.    Perform procedures, collect data, analyze data and facilitate physician and nurse practitioner decisions regarding patient care, including initial screening, assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, care, reassessment and discontinuation of care.
 
6.    Assist physician to formulate, maintain, support, monitor and modify a patient-specific plan for care, treatment and rehabilitation based on the patient's assessment.  Plan and coordinate care, treatment and rehabilitation for discharged patients.
 
7.    Provide for the exchange of appropriate patient care and clinical information when patients are admitted, referred, transferred, or discharged.  Provide data which will contribute to the assessment of a patient's needs, the organization's capability to provide care or treatment and the appropriate level of care. 
 
8.    Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data, and providing input to department discussions.
 
9.    Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment for employees, patients and families.  Attend required FH training sessions, including radiation safety, laboratory safety, blood borne pathogens, and OSHA.  Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures.
 
10.  Participate in establishing own job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency.
 
11.  Ensure the continuous and timely availability of nursing services to patients.  Participate in designing and providing patient care and services.  Promote and provide quality patient care, nursing services and nursing care on a continuous basis to patients requiring care and service. 
 
12.  Develop nursing standards of patient care and standards of nursing practice consistent with current nursing research findings and nationally recognized professional standards.  Measure, assess and improve patient outcomes achieved through developing and implementing nursing standards of patient care and nursing standards of practice. 
 
13.  Implement the findings of current research from nursing and literature into the policies and procedures of patient care services and assign responsibility to individual or groups of nursing staff members to take action to improve the nursing service's performance.
 
14.  Understands, adheres to, and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department/unit.
