Spectrum Enterprise currently seeks a Senior Network Engineer, Solutions Engineering for our Enterprise Solutions Engineering Department. Below, please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.

Position Summary:
The Senior Network Engineer, Solutions Engineering position will be responsible to support Spectrum Enterprise Sales and Sales Engineering in the completion of Special Pricing and RFP costing for pre-sales opportunities. The person selected will be located in Austin, TX

Essential Job Functions:
Plan new, expansion, or Migration of the Ethernet/MPLS networks to support carrier and commercial services including Ethernet, Internet Access, Optical Wave, CWDM, and DWDM.
Creation equipment quotes and/or bill of materials based on Spectrum Enterprise Engineering standards.
Provide support in planning space, power, HVAC, Fiber, and network equipment needs at various telco facilities, carrier hotels, POPs, LSOs, and special customer locations.
Maintain and provide diagrams of Commercial networks in a consistent manor.
Work with Spectrum Enterprise Network Core Planning to support customer needs based on current and future utilization.
Plan for customer migrations, network changes, and other upgrades to the various networks.
Manages small and medium scale projects to ensure deliverables are met on-time.
Establish relationship and interface with other organizations and personnel within Spectrum as it relates to planning, including: space requirements, power requirements, equipment usage standards, design standards, and network topology standards.
Forecast and request outside fiber plant requirements based on locations.
Work with OSP Fiber Design to obtain accurate fiber quoting based on current customer needs and future

Job Requirements:
5 years’ experience administering a data (Ethernet, Optical, DWDM) network.
Full understanding of, and ability to design, MPLS all the way through to implementation with hands on implementation experience preferred.
Additional deep knowledge and experience with VPLS, BGP, 802.1Q switched networks, and related routing protocols.
Understanding of optical transmission technologies including DWDM, CWDM, and xPON services as well as layer 3 routing and layer 2 switching / circuit emulation.
Experience with a large campus, enterprise, or carrier MPLS/BGP networks.
Understanding physical and logical cross-connects as it relates to network design and traffic management.
Has the ability to perform data analysis and reconciliation with reports and other data sources in order to support the network.
Microsoft Office and Visio.

Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of Spectrum Enterprise network configuration and design standards.
Prefer Cisco, Alcatel (Nokia), Juniper, and/or Cienna experience preferred but not required.
Working experience with Telcordia Granite inventory and circuit database is preferred but not required.
Understanding of DC and AC power usage and planning.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including macro creation to automate tasks.
Industry recognized network certification is preferred by not required.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university; or equivalent training, education and experience.
